A season of summer game announcements, built around E3 2021, the Summer Game Fest, and other events, is just several weeks away. That makes the pre-E3 window a time for leaks, teaser, and early marketing as hype builds toward upcoming announcements. A recent response from an Ask Me Anything on Reddit with voice actor Sam Witwer, the voice of Days Gone's protagonist and Darth Maul in animated and gaming Star Wars projects, offers a potential teaser.
Witwer was answering questions in the Days Gone subreddit about his performance and career when one fan asked about his upcoming plans. It's not unusual to be asked what one will be working on next in an AMA, but it is rare to get a concrete response. Witwer said the "short answer" is he is working on something new. He adds that he can't be any more specific, but he does offer up a clue.

The clue that Witwer offers to Days Gone fans is that his work on Days Gone helped him get his upcoming role. "It's kinda unlike anything I've done just yet," he said. He doesn't add anything else, so fans are left to speculate about what kind of game it is, who is making it, and whether it's a hint at an announcement that could be forthcoming.
Going off of the assumption that Days Gone helped Witwer get his next job, there are a couple of stand-out possibilities. For one, it could mean that Witwer is again working with Sony Interactive Entertainment on a new game. Alternatively, if it was a specific clue, it could even be Bend Studio's next game, even if that isn't Days Gone 2. It could also be a more general clue, hinting at Witwer working on an anime that Sony could be localizing.
The other question worth asking is whether Witwer might be hinting at the project because it could be a forthcoming announcement. There's no evidence of that other than the nearness of E3 2021 and other summer events, so it's nothing to set expectations for. Regardless, it's exciting to consider.
Ultimately, Witwer is a journeyman voice actor, having worked on over ten games since being the likeness of Starkiller in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. He could have been hired for any upcoming project, and that project could launch any time in the next few years. Fans of Witwer's work on Days Gone and Star Wars will certainly be excitedly waiting for more news.
Days Gone is available now on PC and PS4.
