Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is one of the most anticipated games out there, and there hasn't even been an official announcement. That being said, it's coming, and it's beginning to feel like it could be coming sooner rather than later. There are a lot of rumors and speculation surrounding the sequel, many of which could be put to rest with the first trailer reveal. It's possible that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 could be open world, limitless possibilities for more familiar characters to make appearances, and a lot of speculation about the first game's cryptic ending.
With no official announcement, it's hard to tell if Remake Part 2 is close or far away. Even though the developer wants to put the game out as soon as possible, no one wants it to be rushed. Final Fantasy 7 Remake set the bar pretty high for the rest of the series, and Square Enix has its work cut out. Even though the game is confirmed to be in development, almost nothing is known about it apart from the fact that it will have a very different atmosphere from the first game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade releases on June 10, which is less than a month away now. Although no official announcements have been made for Part 2 and no gameplay footage has been released, the game definitely exists and the developers have previously stated that they want to get it into players' hands as soon as possible.
It's still unknown how many games will be in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, and fans have been speculating for months how far into the story Part 2 will go. Right now, though, the franchise has a lot of momentum. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been out for a little over a year and rose to critical acclaim, creating a nostalgic experience for old fans and bringing in brand new ones. The game ended right as Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith, and Red 13 leave Midgard, so there's quite a bit of story left to tell.
Since the release, Square Enix has done a lot more within the Final Fantasy 7 universe, keeping up the pace. Two mobile games were recently announced: a battle royale game called The First Soldier and Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis, which promises to bring together every story within the world of Final Fantasy 7 including Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. At the same time, the developer introduced Intergrade, the PS5 upgrade that will include a singleplayer story DLC starring Yuffie, the Avalanche ninja and Materia hunter.
After Intergrade releases, Square Enix will want to keep up the momentum. There won't be a year-long dry spell until the announcement of Part 2; it feels like the announcement is imminent at this point. Fans know the game exists, and Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the first game, has stated that development is going very well and the announcement will be made when the time is right. The trailer could be cut and ready to go, but it seems like there's a very specific timeline Square Enix is following regarding its Final Fantasy 7 announcements.
With the schedule in mind, it's very unlikely that any news about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will come before Intergrade's release, so fans are looking at at least another month of silence where the sequel is concerned. Square Enix has been hyping up Intergrade quite a bit, and obviously wants the PS5 upgrade and Yuffie DLC to have their moments in the sun before moving onto Part 2.
His phrasing is interesting because apart from the Yuffie DLC, Intergrade will feature the exact same game as Final Fantasy 7 Remake and it's extremely unlikely that anything extra will be added to the end of the game. Despite being a little bit controversial within the Final Fantasy community, on a cinematic level it was a beautiful way to end the game. Intergrade also hasn't advertised new content within the base game apart from a few quality of life and graphical upgrades.
So, it might be possible that "INTERmission" will add a little bit more action towards the end of the game, to explain why Nomura emphasized Part 2 will pick up after the events of Intergrade rather than just the first game. After all, fans know Yuffie won't stay in Midgar either. Alternatively, it could just be his way of steering players' thoughts towards Intergrade, knowing that Part 2's announcement won't come until after.

Even though there haven't been any announcements, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 could be coming sooner rather than later. Square Enix has been doing a lot of wordplay with Final Fantasy recently and with Intergrade and "Episode INTERmission," the PS5 upgrade has been made to feel like an intermission between two acts of a big show. This was almost certainly intentional.
However, with recent developer statements factoring in, it seems like Intergrade and the DLC could be more of a pre-show, advertising how the second game could look on the PS5 and re-hyping up Final Fantasy 7 before making the big announcement. It could go the other way, considering that Intergrade may have taken some time away from Part 2's development, but that's not how Square Enix is setting it up.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is on plenty of fans' wish lists for E3, which happens only a few days after Intergrade is released. If the announcement happens over E3 weekend, Intergrade will absolutely be a pre-show rather than a true intermission. If this is Square Enix's plan, it's a smart one that will make Final Fantasy 7 the star of the week. Considering E3 is the biggest gaming event of the year, that's a big deal.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 doesn't necessarily need the extra publicity from stealing the show at E3; it will take the gaming community by storm no matter when it's announced, but it couldn't hurt and would make the announcement a true event. Square Enix likes to make an entrance when it comes to Final Fantasy 7, and using Intergrade as the pre-show for Part 2's announcement would be the perfect way to do that.
