10 Things About Resident Evil Village That Make No Sense

While this Resident Evil title is making waves for its amazing story and gameplay, there are still some parts of it that make absolutely no sense.

Resident Evil Village would not be a Resident Evil game if it was not ridiculous, over the top, and constantly bordering on the edge of nonsense. This does sometimes leads to issues, especially when it comes to moments in the story or deeper lore that make little to no sense.

These kinds of things don't necessarily undermine the quality of Resident Evil Village, however — the game has so far been met with almost exclusively universal praise. Still, it can be fun to look at some of these wild errors and moments of silliness in an otherwise quite scary game.

10 Why Didn't Chris Tell Ethan The Plan In The Beginning?

The game starts out with Chris Redfield killing who appears to be Mia, thus prompting Ethan to look for answers in the village and castle. So much trouble could have been avoided if Chris just took a few minutes to explain everything. If the writers did this, however, then marketing would not have had a hook and the developers would not have a game.

9 Why Does Nobody Talk About How Evil Mia Is?

People seem to forget about Mia's involvement with the Connections, the organization first introduced in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard who creates Eveline. Mia was in their employ and fully aware of their activities. However, Chris never brings this up and she is never reprimanded for her work. Maybe everybody figures several years captive in the Baker estate is punishment enough. Perhaps a sequel will bring these issues to light and see comeuppance for Mia.

8 Nobody Has Accents And They Say Dimitrescu Wrong

It is always classic to revert to English accents when a story takes place in a foreign location. The village in Resident Evil Village is in Romania and the last name Dimitrescu is distinctly Romanian.

However, even Lady Dimitrescu pronounces it incorrectly. The "u" is not silent. It is not the biggest deal in the world, but we'd think at least the locals would pronounce it correctly; especially the one who actually has the last name.

7 Chris Waits Until Mia Is In Front Ethan To Shoot

The scene where Chris guns down Mia is brutal. She is not shot just once; Mia takes an entire truckload of bullets before going down. As if that's not bad enough, Chris then walks into the house and shoots her a bunch of times with a pistol. It is understandable to want Rose out of the way before unleashing a hail of bullets, but they at least should have waited until Ethan turned his back.

6 Ethan Never Questions His Own Abilities

In Resident Evil 7 and Village Ethan Winters takes an incredible beating and loses limbs on several occasions. Even after losing his leg in Resident Evil 7 he does not question how it is able to attach again. Only in the recent game's ending does an explanation come forward. However, anybody reading this would probably be amazed and terrified if their dismembered hand could reattach itself with no problem. It certainly is a cool ability, though.

5 Why Don't We See Ethan?

The first-person perspective is an interesting twist for the series. However, it is weird how hard the developers work to make sure players do not see Ethan's face during the campaign. It is not like his appearance is anything special. Maybe they want the player to embody Ethan and feel like they are the protagonist, but he speaks and has a distinct personality. It is almost distracting the camera angles used in the cutscenes to not show Ethan's face.

4 Ethan's Clothes Also Repair Themselves

Resident Evil Village explains why Ethan is able to attach his limbs after they've been cut off. However, this does not explain why his clothing also repairs itself at the same time.

It is not like his shirts and pants are also made of Mold. Maybe Mia did something scientific to them to ensure they do come back in normal shape in case he is injured. Otherwise, they'd be tattered rags by the end of the game.

3 Why Divide Rose Into Four Pieces?

We can certainly suspend our disbelief when it comes to replacing a baby's consciousness. Why, though, does Mother Miranda have to split the child up into four separate pieces? Four pieces is not even a comfortable way to split up a body evenly. We shudder to even think about how Mother Miranda actually did this. Things get even weirder when the ceremony fails and Rose is simply okay. She is born from the Mold so we suppose it makes sense as much as anything in Resident Evil does.

2 Ethan Cannot Die Unless Players Fail And Get A Game Over

The story explains how Ethan is essentially invincible. However, players still get game overs if Ethan takes too much damage as he becomes incapacitated. He gets his hands chopped off in cinematic cutscenes, but God forbid a Lycan smacks him too many times during gameplay. If losing his heart does not take him out for good, then a few cuts from werewolves should not do the trick either.

1 The Inventory Attache Case

The inventory resembles the attache case from Resident Evil 4, so this point also counts towards the fourth mainline entry. Does Ethan walk around with a briefcase on his back where all the weapons are being held? Not even taking into consideration fitting all those guns into a suitcase, the sheer weight of it all would exhaust Ethan within a few minutes. At least the inventory system works better than most other Resident Evil games in terms of gameplay.
