Battlefield 5 provides a number of options for weapons in the Medic class. Here's how players can get their hands on the powerful Commando Carbine.

The Battlefield 5 Medic class has a total of eight different weapons to choose from. Until the Commando Carbine was released, the only type of gun Medics could use were SMGs. As single fire gun with high damage at close to medium ranges, the new weapon provided a much-needed change to the Medic armory.

To unlock it, gamers will have to complete a series of five challenges, with three different potential routes. This guide will cover the fastest way to finish all of the objectives, so that players can get their hands on this weapon in just a few matches. The best upgrades, as well as the relevant weapon stats, are included below as well.

The first step to unlocking the Commando Carbine is to win a match of grind, a game mode that was added to Battlefield V in April of 2019. From there, players have three different routes they can choose to take to complete the process of unlocking the weapon. The best choice is the bottom path, which involves a series of three additional challenges.

Next, players will need to revive five teammates in one life. An easy way to do this is to play Devastation. This should be relatively simple, and will likely not take more than one match.

The following objective states that gamers need to resupply 15 teammates without dying. By throwing a bunch of medical bags at teammates, most people can complete this objective in the first match they enter.

It may seem like a lot of experience, but the challenge will go by quickly for those that play the objectives. In Grind, gamers will get a lot more XP through objective play than they will by racking up a lot of kills. Those who play to win the match will complete the challenge in no time. Reviving and resupplying teammate rewards a lot of XP as well.

The final objective is as simple as the rest. Healing and reviving teammates will count toward the total. In the meantime, gamers can deal damage to opponents for additional points. This objective also applies to the Grind game mode. One or two matches should be enough for most players to reach 7,500.

After the objective is complete, the Commando Carbine will be available to use in Battlefield V. Those that choose to complete all of the other challenges will receive additional XP for their efforts.

The Commando Carbine provides a nice change from the other Medic weapons. All of the other available options are SMGs that appear to be carbon copies of one another. At level four, gamers will be able to choose four different upgrades for the Carbine. Players should choose the following four upgrades:

  • Quick Aim
  • Custom Stock
  • Machine Bolt
  • Enhanced Grips

Quick Aim provides slightly more accuracy, allowing the gun to compete with SMGs at short distances. Because the gun will be used primarily in tight quarters, the Custom Stock will help with accuracy and control up close. Bullet velocity is not as important when fighting from short distances, so the extra RPM boost from the High Velocity Rounds is not necessary. The Commando Carbine does not receive a noticeable boost from the rounds anyway.

Likewise, the Quick Reload upgrade does not make much of a difference, so players will want to opt for the Machine Bolt. Getting off rounds faster is far more beneficial than a slight reduction to reload time. Finally, the Enhanced Grips provide a noticeable improvement in close range gunfights, while having additional bullets is not essential. The base mag is 8 rounds, which is enough to kill a couple of enemies without needing to reload.

The Carbine is a two-shot kill to the chest and a one-shot kill to the head. As stated, the gun has a low bullet velocity, which is noticeable as ranges get extended. Bullet drop and hit delay are a couple of downsides to using the weapon. Gamers will need to lead their targets and aim above the head at longer ranges.

There is a considerable damage drop off with the Carbine as well. It will take two or even three chest shots to kill opponents from around 50 meters and beyond. Because of how many bullets it takes to kill at range, the Machine Bolt is a must. This upgrade increases fire rate, which lowers the theoretical time to kill substantially.

Medics only have a few weapons to choose from in their class. The Carbine provides a different playing experience and can dominate at close and medium range. Since it is a single fire weapon, it will require more skill and accuracy than the other Medic guns in the game.

It is tempting to rank this gun high, due to the fact that it provides a much needed break from the medic SMGs. Still, the low bullet velocity and damage drop offs limit the potential of the Carbine. The weapon is certainly a consistent and viable option as a medic. Unfortunately, it is not the best weapon to use considering the downsides stated above. Still, the Commando Carbine is a fun weapon, and people should take the time to unlock it. All of the challenges can be completed in under an hour, and the time commitment is worth giving it a try.
