As romance is a prevalent part in modern RPGs, some fans are wondering whether or not there are any romance options in Miitopia.

Miitopia lets players fully customize each of their characters, but many choose to model their Miis after themselves. With that in mind, couples that play Miitopia together by taking turns may want to know if there's any way that their Miis can share the same connection in game as they do in real life. Even players that don't create Miis in their own image may want to engage in romance with other members of their party or even with NPCs, as this feature has become a prevalent part of modern RPGs lately.

Miitopia is rated E, so if fans find any kind of romance in the game is going to either be implied or generally very low key. Keeping in line with Nintendo's family friendly values, players definitely shouldn't expect anything too explicit. That said, there are some levels of romance to be found within Miitopia.

There is no romance in the traditional sense in Miitopia, but players are able to develop relationships between their party members. Each pair of Miis has a relationship level that determines how close they are with one another. At the beginning this represents nothing more than a friendship, but things do start to turn romantic eventually. In order to avoid any kind of awkward situations between two Miis that probably shouldn't be romantically involved, these interactions are always kept ambiguous. Players can interpret them as a romantic relationship if they choose to but could just as easily see them as something else entirely.

That said, increasing two Mii's relationship level is extremely helpful in terms of gameplay. With each new level, Miis gain access to assist skills that trigger at random. Sometimes this takes the form of one Mii protecting their friend/lover, and other times it may be a duo attack for increased damage. Players can increase the relationship level of two Miis by ensuring they have positive interactions with each other. For example, healing or taking hits for another Mii is a great way to do this, but the primary way of increasing this stat is by having two Miis share a room at the inn.

One benefit about Miitopia's approach to romance is that it is entirely inclusive. All relationships progress in the exact same way, and there are no limitations on this based on character gender. Two same sex characters are able to form a strong bond and have a relationship. As with any relationship in the game, though, the romance aspect is kept ambiguous intentionally.

Miitopia is available now on Switch.
