Sony Pictures offered fans the first look at Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg’s Victor “Sully” Sullivan from the Uncharted film.

A new photo from the much-awaited Uncharted movie has been released by Sony Pictures. The image shows Tom Holland's Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg's Victor “Sully” Sullivan standing in a dimly lit room, clearly searching for something.

While an image of Holland’s Drake was released last year, this is the first time fans are getting a glimpse of Wahlberg’s Sully. As soon as the Uncharted image was released by the New York Times, it went viral on social media, with many fans of the game series quickly pointing out that Sully’s iconic mustache was missing. It then led to a conversation about the changes that are being made in the live-action adaptation of the extremely popular game series.

Last year, Wahlberg teased fans by sharing an Instagram video of himself sporting a mustache. It had fans excited because it meant that the film would be keeping Sully’s appearance as close to the game as possible. However, seeing Wahlberg’s Sully without the mustache in the new still from the Uncharted movie has left many fans unhappy. Additionally, some pointed out that Holland wasn’t even dressed like Drake, and that the image did not represent the world of Uncharted they had gotten used to seeing over the course of the four mainline games that have been released thus far.

Based on the Naughty Dog video game series, the Uncharted movie will work as an origin story for Drake and Sully, some of the most popular game characters. For those who haven’t played the games, Drake is a globe-trotting treasure hunter and Sully is like his father figure and mentor. Since the film will be set prior to the events covered in the games, it could explain why Sully’s mustache hasn’t grown out yet. However, in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, fans were offered a look at young Drake first meeting Sully, so it would be interesting to see what direction the story goes in the film.

Apart from Holland and Wahlberg, the film stars Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe Frazer, Antonio Banderas in a potentially villainous role, and Tati Gabrielle. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who has previously worked on movies like Zombieland and Venom. The movie has been spoken about for more than a decade and has faced several delays, especially since many of the directors left the Uncharted project over the course of its development. With shooting finally complete, fans are hoping they will get to see the live-action adaptation soon.

Uncharted is expected to release in theaters on February 18, 2022.
