June 2021 is shaping to be one of the biggest post-launch months for Sony's PlayStation 5 console to date, with a number of big releases.

Sony launched the PlayStation 5 in November of last year, and it's already been a massive success. While supply issues have kept many fans from getting a PlayStation 5 system of their own, the console has still enjoyed a mostly positive reception from the community, with minimal technical issues and an already-impressive library of games. With November 2020 being the console's launch month, it was easily the biggest in terms of growing the PlayStation 5's library, but June 2021 is set to take things to the next level.

There have been a handful of critically-acclaimed PlayStation 5 exclusive games released for the console, and soon there will be even more. June 2021 will see the launch of PlayStation 5 exclusive games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, the next-gen version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as well as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the latest installment in the fan favorite Ratchet & Clank series from Insomniac Games. Assuming those games live up to expectations, they will both go a long way in making the PS5 an even more must-own console.

While the PlayStation 5 will be getting some major exclusive games in June, the console will also be getting some important multiplatform titles as well. Notably, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally making its next-gen debut in June, and anticipated third-party releases like Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance and Scarlet Nexus are on the way as well. With all these big game releases coming to the PlayStation 5 in June, it's clear that owners of Sony's next-generation console have a lot to look forward to next month.

Here are some rundowns for the biggest PlayStation 5 games releasing in June 2021, as well as a full list of every new game that will be releasing for Sony's PlayStation 5 console next month.

One of the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusive games of the last couple of years was Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which successfully reinvented the classic Final Fantasy 7 with modern graphics and a revamped combat system. Like many games released late in the PS4's lifecycle, a PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also on the way, set to hit the PlayStation 5 on June 8 as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be a free upgrade to anyone that owns the PlayStation 4 version of the game. From the sounds of it, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will likely be the definitive way to experience the game, with enhanced performance, visuals, and other bells and whistles to make it worth a look, even for those that already played through the game on PlayStation 4. However, the real draw of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is the Yuffie DLC that releases alongside it.

The PS5-exclusive Yuffie DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be available to anyone that purchases the PS5 version o its own or who buy it separately as DLC. The Yuffie DLC will, as one might have guessed, feature Yuffie in the starring role and help bridge the gap between Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its upcoming sequel. Considering how well Final Fantasy 7 Remake was received, it's safe to say many fans are excited for more.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade isn't the only PS5 exclusive dropping in June. Arguably even more high profile is the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the latest game in the long-running 3D platforming series from Insomniac Games. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will see Ratchet, Clank, and new playable character Rivet explore a variety of alien planets, blasting away foes with an impressive arsenal of creative weapons. The Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart footage shown so far has been very impressive, and so chances are good that it will wind up being one of the top games of the year once it launches on June 11.

With Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media and Bethesda, there has been worry that PlayStation fans will be missing out on some of the company's biggest franchises. That could still hold true for future Bethesda titles, but PlayStation 5 gamers can still look forward to an enhanced version of The Elder Scrolls Online at least. The PS5 version of The Elder Scrolls Online was originally pegged for a June 8 launch, but it was pushed back by a week. When it does drop on June 15, The Elder Scrolls Online PS5 upgrade (free to anyone that already owns the PS4 version of the game) will greatly improve the graphics and performance, with the developers claiming that the next-gen version will slash the load times in half.

In the early 2000s, the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games proved to be fairly popular on the PlayStation 2, earning critical acclaim, winning awards, and being hailed as some of the best action-RPGs available on the console. Fast forward to 2021 and the Dark Alliance series is returning in the form of Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, a spiritual successor to the original hack-and-slash games. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance features 4-player co-op and a modern twist on the classic formula. Whether or not it lives up to the high bar set by its predecessors remains to be seen, but fans will find out come next month.

One of the first next-gen games revealed by Bandai Namco, Scarlet Nexus is set to launch for the PlayStation 5 at the end of June. Boasting an anime-inspired art style, Scarlet Nexus is an action-RPG where players utilize swords and psychic powers. Fans seem to have responded positively to Scarlet Nexus so far, and luckily those on the fence will be able to try before they buy. A Scarlet Nexus demo is launching for the PlayStation 5 on May 28, so anyone interested can check that out.

While Final Fantasy 7 Remake IntergradeRatchet & Clank: Rift ApartThe Elder Scrolls OnlineDungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, and Scarlet Nexus are arguably the most significant games releasing for the PlayStation 5 in June, they aren't the only ones. There are a number of other titles that will release for Sony's next-generation console next month, ensuring that there is a little something for everyone to play.

Besides the aforementioned heavy hitters, PlayStation 5 owners also may want to check out Chivalry 2Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, and Metro Exodus: Complete Edition. Some smaller games will also be available in June as well.

Here is a full list of the new PlayStation 5 games launching in June 2021:

  • Evergate - June 4
  • The Persistence Enhanced - June 4
  • Chivalry 2 - June 8
  • Neptunia ReVerse - June 8
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade - June 8
  • Guilty Gear -STRIVE- - June 11
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - June 11
  • The Elder Scrolls Online - June 15
  • Metro Exodus: Complete Edition - June 18
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance - June 22
  • Scarlet Nexus - June 25

The video game industry typically enters a "drought" of new releases in the summer, and so PlayStation 5 gamers can expect the new game releases to slow down in July and August. However, this fall should be huge for the PlayStation 5, though Sony has kept its plans secret for now. Sony won't have a proper E3 2021 presentation next month, but that doesn't mean that the company won't still have a showcase of some description. PlayStation 5 enthusiasts should keep an eye out, and they can watch the Horizon: Forbidden West State of Play presentation in the meantime.
