Genshin Impact developer miHoYo took to Twitter today to announce an upcoming "special program" on its YouTube channel. The broadcast promises details for the game's hotly-anticipated version 1.6 update, and the fanbase is raring to go. Rumors and leaks are already swirling, from a map of the new Inazuma region to suggestions that new skins will be made available, so players are champing at the bit to find out what will be confirmed or denied by miHoYo.
Since its release last year, Genshin Impact has soared in popularity within its native China and across the world. The acclaim and renown has been a bit of a mixed blessing, as evidenced by last month's account of a knife-wielding man being arrested after trying to murder the miHoYo's founders, but most of the gacha game's fanbase have been more appreciative of the developers' efforts.

Since Genshin Impact's 1.5 update released in April to general excitement, players have been anxious to find out more about the planned 1.6 additions, and miHoYo seems poised to do just that. The company's upcoming "special program" will debut on May 28th at 12pm Eastern/9am Pacific. The announcement promises "juicy details" of version 1.6, along with redemption codes and special gifts besides. The previous broadcast, released prior to 1.5's release, clocked in at about 50 minutes, so fans can expect a similar length for this one.
That's all that miHoYo are sharing for now, but judging by the content of several leaks that have been discovered over the past month, this update could be a significant one. Some insiders have revealed that players could get another chance to roll for characters like Klee, while others have suggested that players would be taking to the high seas as they travel to the newest region: the mysterious Inazuma.
Inazuma has been teased to Genshin Impact players ever since it was first noticed on the horizon after the 1.2 update, but it may finally be coming to the game. The island nation houses the Electro Archon, Baal, and is loosely based on Japan. An isolationist turn has its local populace on edge, and will likely prove a rich source of narrative material for future quests and the like.
Whatever the exact details, the 1.6 update is set to be the biggest one to date. With alleged plans to keep supporting and updating Genshin Impact for upwards of a decade, the team at miHoYo clearly has plenty of ideas for new content knocking about. Just which of those ideas will make it into the 1.6 update, though, will remain a mystery until the grand reveal on Friday.
Genshin Impact is out now for mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5.
