Dwayne Johnson posted a photo that showed the massive film set for his upcoming Black Adam film. In the monochrome photo, we see a wide-open film set with larger-than-life curtains, a giant camera, and a whole production team standing amongst the set-designed destruction.
Black Adam is a DC anti-hero that is the opposition to Captain Marvel, also known as Shazam. This film is halfway through production according to the lead star, so it hopefully won't be long until this film hits theaters. The last DC film fans saw was the Snyder cut of the Justice League film, which brought back his changes that he initially had intended for the film.

A little while ago, Johnson teased his Black Adam costume for the film, which many fans have been waiting for. The actor's casting was announced years ago, way before the film began production, yet fans still haven't seen the costume. Many can speculate based on the concept art or fan art on the internet, but many want to see the costume "live" on film. The wait was made even longer after Warner Bros. and DC opted to scrap a Black Adam cameo in Shazam! in favor of introducing the anti-hero in his own standalone film.
While this set photo offers nothing in terms of the Black Adam plot, fans can at least get a sense of the scope due to how large the set is and the number of crew members. Only time will tell how exactly this film fits in the DC's continuity and where the universe will go from here. This film needs to add something of value in terms of the overarching story if DC has any hope of bringing their fans back on their side as supporters.
DC hasn't been on the positive side of fan feedback for quite some time. The Snyder Cut got many fans back on their side, but with the mistreatment of their director and racial/gender discrimination towards their actors, it's going to take a lot for WB to win back supporters. Black Adam needs to add something that can give viewers and fans an incentive to continue on the journey with their favorite DC heroes.
Only time will tell what this film can add. Black Adam isn't central to any current plot points in the cinematic universe, but there's a chance that he can be included in another DC film like Shazam 2, similar to the reveal of Martian Manhunter in the Justice League film.
Black Adam will be available in theaters on July 29, 2022.
