Even years after the game's release, one fan is still uncovering interesting details and secrets most fans missed in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with secrets and details through its immense world. Even years after the game's original release, fans are still uncovering Easter eggs, references, and the secret stories unfolding in the lives of Red Dead Redemption 2's NPCs.

One of those fans is YouTuber Strange Man, who has investigated many Red Dead Redemption 2 mysteries in the past. Here are just some of the Red Dead secrets most fans missed.

The town of Rhodes in Lemoyne players can find a dog looking into the general store, barking and begging through one of the windows. If the player goes inside the store, they'll see that the window the dog is barking at is surrounded by hanging meat. It's a small detail, but one of many that helped bring the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 to life. This isn't the only dog-related detail in Rhodes.

At sunset a dog can also be found sitting at the grave of their master in the cemetery just north of town. A similar detail was also included in Grand Theft Auto 5. If players visit the cemetery in GTA 5 they'll find a Skye Terrier walking around that will lead them to what most fans assume to be its owner's grave. This is a reference to a dog named Greyfriars Bobby, who visited his master's grave in Edinburgh for 14 years. This isn't even the only time a dog can be found sitting by a grave in Red Dead Redemption 2 - players found a similar detail in Saint Denis.

It's one of the stranger testaments to Red Dead Redemption 2's level of detail that even the dogs seem to have independent lives. Even the graveyard detail is far from the strangest role a dog plays in Red Dead Redemption 2. The dog in the graveyard may be sad, but at least it's better off than the unfortunate one found in the Stranger Mission "He's British, Of Course," which is disguised as a lion before being eaten by a cougar, which is itself disguised as a tiger.

Some of the details included in Red Dead Redemption 2 are so small that it's taken players multiple playthroughs to even notice that they always take place. One of these details appears near the end of one of Red Dead 2's most important missions, "American Venom." As the player approaches the building Micah Bell is standing in, a rat will always run past the entrance.

This triggers at a distance, so it's a detail players can easily miss. Although it's never entirely confirmed, this is a reference to Micah ratting out the Van der Linde gang. It could also be a reference to The Departed, which features a similar scene, though it would make sense for Rockstar to make the same visual pun independently.

Francis Sinclair, the stranger behind the Stranger Mission "Geology for Beginners" is a reference to the Epsilon cult from GTA. He is implied to be a time traveler, has a birthmark associated with Epislon's beliefs, and wears blue like the cult's followers in Grand Theft Auto 5. However, originally his design more closely resembled another time travelling character who appeared in the Wild West - Doc Brown in Back to the Future Part 3.

Game files show that Francis' original design in the drawings found in his cabin didn't include the birthmarks, and showed him wearing a lab coat instead of the blue sweater he wears in the retail release. It's possible he was originally planned as a reference to Back to the Future 3 before Rockstar Games realized the potential to also tie the character into GTA, making the quest a less obvious reference and making the whole encounter seem more mysterious. Whatever the truth is, it's likely Red Dead Redemption 2 fans will still be finding hidden details in the game's huge world for years to come.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
