Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is in the middle of Season 3, with the midseason update launching last week. While Treyarch celebrated its arrival with Double XP, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players are already set to get another event with increased experience gains.
The next Double XP event kicks off this weekend, and it will not be the only thing special about the final days of March. A free trial of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will also be accessible, giving those without the game access to its lineup of multiplayer content. Zombies Outbreak will also be available, giving anyone trying out the game a chance to experience fishing or the mode’s main quest. While the Free Access for the game runs until June 1, the Double XP weekend will be a bit shorter.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans can begin enjoying the Double XP on Friday, May 28. Starting at 10AM PT, the event will extend until May 31. It ends at 10 AM PT on that day, giving gamers three full days of increased XP gains. While the boost to XP will work in Zombies and multiplayer, there has been no mention of Double XP in Call of Duty: Warzone, meaning that it is likely limited to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Still, this should provide players with a great chance to rank up.
Right now, the popular 12v12 playlist is live, with the hectic matches guaranteeing gamers plenty of kills. Each of those kills should result in XP, making a combination of the playlist and Double XP period a guaranteed way to level up fast. Much like how fans pair Nuketown 24/7 with Double XP to fly through the ranks, the 12v12 mode could give gamers the same result. Players also have more map variety in 12v12, making it an even more enjoyable way to hit max Season level.
For players that do not want to wait for this Friday, there is another way to get access to Double XP — though it is limited to PlayStation platforms. If players load up Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War or Call of Duty: Warzone, they can access five hours’ worth of Double XP tokens. Part of PlayStation's Play at Home program, the tokens can be claimed from the Message of the Day, and they work in either game. However, they cannot be stacked with events, meaning they must be used before or after this weekend.
With so many opportunities for Double XP, gamers should be flying through Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s prestige ranks. Further, the Free Access period launching alongside the event gives newcomers the perfect chance to level up quickly.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
