Biomutant features a crafting system, allowing players to create fully customizable weapons from different types of items found in the open world.

While Biomutant contains a plethora of weapons for players to find and earn over the course of the game, its crafting system definitely shouldn't be neglected. Crafting in Biomutant is pretty thorough, as it not only gives players the opportunity to create their own weapons but also allows for some pretty fun combinations via mixing and matching components. That's to say, even common items like pencils and trumpets found in dead zones and ruins have some use as deadly weapon attachments.

The freedom in customizing their weapons makes crafting somewhat overwhelming for newer RPG players. First, from the main menu, all players need to get started on making their weapons lies under the 'Craft' tab. Crafting guns and other ranged weapons are a little more complex than crafting melee weapons, as players will need some specific components in place before crafting anything.

First, to move over to ranged weapons from melee, press the right bumper (RB). Here, players will notice the handful of components that make up most ranged weapons in Biomutant:

  • Ranged Base - changes the type of gun players have, with options being an Automatic Rifle, Gun, Rifle, or Shotgun.
  • Grips - changes the way the gun is held, which improves accuracy.
  • Muzzles - changes fire rate as well as armor-piercing ability.
  • Stocks - adds stability, which also improves accuracy.
  • Top Mods - mostly scopes, which improves accuracy and range.
  • Magazines - increases the number of bullets that can be held.

Of all these components, the most important of crafting a ranged weapon are the base, a grip, and a muzzle. Without these three, it would be virtually impossible to fire any weapon regardless, and that is especially true in Biomutant.

When choosing a ranged base, it's good to keep in mind which type of gun is best for any given combat situation in Biomutant. For example, Automatic Rifles all come with a higher rate of fire, making them great for waves of enemies. Shotguns do crazy damage up close and against single targets, while Rifles have the main advantage of range. Guns would be the only variety class, mainly falling somewhere between the other three.

Stats are another important component to consider when crafting guns, although the system is pretty forgiving. Weapon components don't need to be in the players' possession prior to crafting and removing them doesn't penalize the player. That means as Biomutant fans navigate the world and find better components, replacing them on their weapon of choice or carrying over favored components to a new weapon is just as easily done.

Biomutant is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
