Red Dead Online has come a long way since it released, but there are still some big changes that Rockstar Games could make to improve it.

Red Dead Online launched as the multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2 before getting a standalone release at the end of 2020. Red Dead Online lets players make their own name for themselves in the wild west: Whether they want to hunt the rarest animals, track down dangerous outlaws, smuggle moonshine, or scavenge for herbs, Red Dead Online has players covered. Of course, Red Dead Online also has all of the shootouts, hijinks, and player interactions that players have come to expect from Rockstar Games' online modes.

However, there are a lot of areas that Red Dead Online could improve as well. Players already have a lot of options when playing; there are countless clothing items to buy and customize one's character with, horses to train and upgrade, guns to personalize, and plenty more for players to spend their hard-earned money on. However, there is still a lot that Red Dead Online could do to flesh out its experience and give players who have spent a lot of hours in the game more to do. With the likely possibility of Red Dead Online coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X, it would be the perfect time for Rockstar Games to implement similar changes.

It has been nearly a year since a data leak found evidence that player housing was planned to be implemented in Red Dead Online. The leak found a variety of different properties as well as their purchase price, yet Rockstar Games has made no official announcement as to whether or not the feature is in the game's future. However, adding player housing would make a lot of sense for Red Dead Online. Not only is there a similar feature in Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto Online, but there is also a ton of potential for the feature in Red Dead Online, on top of the fact that the game already allows players to own a small shack for Red Dead Online's Moonshiner role.

A house in locations like Saint Denis or Blackwater could be very valuable for players who want to have somewhere to store things near where they sell animal skins or purchase equipment. Houses could also provide a new opportunity for longtime players to invest hard-earned cash on customizing houses, as well as customization items being rewards in Red Dead Online's seasonal Outlaw Passes. One of the biggest opportunities for player housing in Red Dead Online is their opportunity to act as meeting places for players. It would be great if players were able to host public games of poker, five-finger filet, or even shooting contests once they purchase their own land.

Co-op heist missions are one of the biggest features in Grand Theft Auto Online, and they would feel right at home in Red Dead Online as well. Red Dead Redemption 2's story also features players taking on a multitude of heists and robberies that could be used as decent templates for Red Dead Online counterparts. It would be a big activity if players could stage and execute a train heist to earn some cash and gold bars, or if they could rob a large bank or hire themselves out to free an outlaw from a jail cell.

Multiplayer heists in Red Dead Online could easily be structured in a way very similar to Grand Theft Auto Online's. This would see one player funding the start of a heist before getting other players together to tackle a series of setup missions leading up to the heist itself. Setup missions such as this could feature activities like taming horses to use for a getaway, stealing a carriage to haul away the money, or even casing a bank or large estate that is the target of the heist.

Heists would be a great cooperative activity that Red Dead Online players could jump into with their friends while also being a good way for the multiplayer mode to deliver small stories to its players. With how successful Grand Theft Auto Online's Cayo Perio Heist was, it does seem like Red Dead Online heists are a possibility that Rockstar Games could be interested in.

Red Dead Online players have been calling for a Mexico DLC for quite a while now. Players visited Mexico in Red Dead Redemption, but the area was noticeably absent from Red Dead Redemption 2. A Mexico region would give players some great new locations to visit, and could expand on all of the current roles in the game. There would be new animals to hunt, herbs to forage and distill with, and new outlaws to hunt across the fresh terrain. The expansion would also provide a great opportunity for some new story missions that players could journey through to unlock the new region.

There has already been some evidence found that Rockstar Games is working on a Mexico region for Red Dead Online, so perhaps it really is in the works. Of course, it could end up that the region is added in a limited capacity, similar to how Cayo Perico was added to Grand Theft Auto Online. However, it would be a shame to see such a fan favorite and beautiful area added in a lesser manner, especially when a fully realized region could bring so much more to Red Dead Online.

Rockstar Games has proven that it is dedicated to Red Dead Online. The developers frequently release new content on top of setting weekly bonuses and discounts to encourage new players to try out all the game has to offer. While Red Dead Online has yet to reach the popularity of Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer mode has still made a name for itself and has managed to find a dedicated player base. With all of the improvements that Rockstar Games has implemented over Red Dead Online's lifespan thus far, the game has a lot of potential. Hopefully, the developers will go big with the game's next updates and make it something really unique.

Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
