Amidst all of the complications surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red appoints a new game director to help with the game's technical issues.

Cyberpunk 2077 got off to an incredibly rocky start when it first released and since then, CD Projekt Red has been making a solid effort to rectify all of the technical issues that still plague the game. Despite launching in a near unfinished state, many players are still hoping that Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually get fixed. Though, apparently, CD Projekt Red is now appointing a new game director going forward.

It's not uncommon for big budget, AAA games to cycle through game directors. Halo Infinite had multiple different directors throughout the entirety of the development project, but Cyberpunk 2077 is somewhat different in that regard considering that the game has only had one director replaced for the entirety of its development. However, in terms of DLC expansions and continual game patches, Cyberpunk 2077 now has a new director overseeing everything.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, CD Projekt Red has assigned Gabriel Amatangelo as the new game director of Cyberpunk 2077, with former quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz stepping down from the position and leaving the studio. While this may come off as concerning news for some fans, this could actually help move Cyberpunk 2077 in a more positive direction.

In the past, Gabriel Amatangelo has worked on numerous game expansions for previous titles like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Considering that the bulk of Cyberpunk 2077's problems involve patching out bugs, and since DLC expansions are primarily what comes next for the game, it could benefit from having a director like Amatangelo who's had experience working largely on game expansions.

In any case, Cyberpunk 2077 still has a long way to go before it can be considered playable on all platforms. As of right now, Cyberpunk 2077 still crashes consistently on PS4, even with all of the content updates and hotfixes that have launched for the game already. Some members of the gaming community feel that the game will never reach the heights that everyone expected it would, even with all of the work that's being done to patch the game.

Although, it will be interesting to see if a new game director makes any difference. So far, Cyberpunk 2077's update roadmap is fairly vague in terms of when players can expect to see any future DLC for game updates. At this point, it's important for CD Projekt Red to remain reactive and keep players in the loop in terms of what the studio has planned. After all, The Witcher 3 launched in a similarly buggy state and the studio managed to patch it in a timely manner.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are slated to launch later this year.
