Ubisoft reveals a Far Cry 6 story trailer, highlighting the sequel's protagonist and Giancarlo Esposito's ruthless dictator, Anton Castillo.

Earlier today, Ubisoft offered players their first proper look at Far Cry 6, revealing new details about the world of Yara and the eccentric characters that reside within it. Included in this fresh look at the sequel was an action-packed story trailer, with the new footage revealing details about the game's main protagonist, Dani, as well as the ruthless dictator they'll be attempting to dethrone.

The trailer itself is just over 2 minutes long and spends the majority of its runtime detailing Dani's mission, including their reasons for waging war against Giancarlo Esposito's Anton Castillo. It seems the protagonist will lead an army of guerrilla fighters known as Libertad, searching for revenge after the calculated dictator ordered a squad of soldiers to open fire on their allies.

Their mission will take them through jungles, cities, villages, and a variety of other environments, as they recruit new soldiers and build their rebel militia. Along the way, Far Cry 6 teases that it will question how far the player is willing to go to get revenge, as they take the fight to their enemies using an array of cobbled-together weapons and explosives.

Of course, the sequel will also have a significant presence in the form of Esposito's "El Presidente," who crops up several times throughout the trailer. Similar to previous villains such as Vaas, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed, it seems the player will interact regularly with Anton Castillo, who has a lot of influence over the people of Yara. Throughout the footage he's seen appearing on talk shows, ordering soldiers to commit unspeakable acts, and even coming face to face with Dani during what appears to be an intense interrogation scene. His son Diego crops up briefly during the footage too, although there's no information about the part he'll play throughout the story.

The trailer definitely suggests that Far Cry 6 will be an action-packed new take on the franchise, complete with plenty of high-stakes shootouts, narrative-focused set pieces, and intense encounters. The rest of the broadcast delved more into the game's open-world setting and gameplay, showing how its focus on guerrilla warfare will change how players interact with combat and other aspects of the game. The sequel will officially release on October 7, although players will surely get to hear more about Far Cry 6 during Ubisoft's appearance at E3. The publisher will hold a Ubisoft Forward conference on June 12, so players wanting to know more about the upcoming sequel should make sure to tune into the event.

Far Cry 6 launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
