Aiden Pearce returns in a teaser for Watch Dogs Legion: Bloodline, with the footage revealing more about the anti-hero's role in the story expansion.

Yesterday marked the 7-year anniversary of the original Watch Dogs, with the hacking-focused third-person action franchise making its debut shortly after the release of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back on May 27, 2014. In celebration of the series' seventh birthday, Ubisoft has decided to offer fans of the franchise an insight into its next major addition, with the official Watch Dogs Legion Twitter account debuting a teaser for the Bloodline story expansion.

Clocking in at just under two minutes long, the short trailer offers an intriguing set-up for Legion's next chapter, seeing former Watch Dogs protagonist Aiden Pearce get drafted into the tale. Fans knew the character would be returning prior to Legion's launch and now it seems Ubisoft is ready to reveal how and why he'll be joining the resistance on the streets of London during Bloodline.

The teaser begins with a now-bearded Pearce sleeping in his car on the streets of Chicago, waking up to a call from recurring Watch Dogs staple Jordi Chin. The Fixer offers the former protagonist a job he's unable to take, teasing that it's "corporate espionage" rather than the standard mercenary work Pearce took on in the original game. Although Aiden is at first reluctant, he quickly becomes interested after discovering the job will send him to London, revealing that his nephew Jackson currently lives there. Concluding his call with Chin, he drives off, seemingly accepting the contract.

It appears the expansion will be picking up several of the threads left off in the first Watch Dogs, including Aiden's relationship with Jackson, which became one of the narrative's more crucial subplots. Although not much else is really known about the DLC, Pearce will be fully playable in the game and can join the resistance, participating in the campaign following his story arc in Bloodline. He'll be joined by Watch Dogs 2's Wrench, who will also make his way to the game as a playable character next month.

Watch Dogs Legion originally launched last year and tried something very different with the Watch Dogs formula, allowing players to assemble their own underground resistance from random NPCs found in the world. It was a novel concept and one that immediately became the game's major selling point, as players could recruit hypnotists, enemy soldiers, bare-knuckle brawlers, and even elderly bystanders. It'll be interesting to see what Bloodline winds up doing with the mechanic, especially as it's mixing in some of Watch Dogs' most memorable characters.

Watch Dogs Legion is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
