The next several weeks and months are going to be an important time for PlayStation. While Sony won't be involved with E3 2021, it's likely to be delivering its own events featuring major reveals and announcements. The fun already started with this past week's Horizon Forbidden West State of Play, but Sony's not stopping there. Today marked the start of the anticipated Days of Play sale, with major discounts on both physical and digital games through June 9.
Days of Play 2021 is one of PlayStation's biggest sales events of the year. Dozens of games, as well as accessories and merchandise, are discounted up to 85 percent. Most discounts are available exclusively for digital games, but there are a variety of physical disks on sale, too. "Hot Deals" include games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Demon's Souls, NBA 2K21, The Last of Us Part 2, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and even the recently released MLB The Show 21.

Games aren't the only thing on sale, as digital currencies, season passes, and DLC are also discounted. MLB The Show 21 Stubs coins, Grand Theft Auto Online Shark Cards, and the Assassin's Creed Valhalla Season Pass are just a few examples of discounted microtransactions. Accessories like the PS5's HD Camera and DualShock 4 Back Button Attachments are also cheaper than usual. Using the code "DAYSOFPLAY21" at checkout will also take an additional 20 percent off PlayStation Gear that's on sale.
While big discounts are the focus of PlayStation's Days of Play, the event is also supposed to be a celebration of games. That's why Sony is going all out by making it a larger event that coincides with this sale. Registration is open until May 31 to participate in the PlayStation Player Celebration, which tasks players to earn trophies and complete challenges for exclusive weekly prizes like PSN avatars and PS4 themes.
PlayStation's Days of Play event is important for those on PS4 and PS5 platforms. Not only is the global pandemic ongoing, limiting gamers' access to retail, but digital libraries are increasingly a priority over physical copies of games for many. That's especially true for PS5 owners who purchased a digital-only console. Big PlayStation sales are likely the best way to get good games that may otherwise be too expensive.
Those hoping to pick up a game on PS4 or PS5 to help fill the lull in releases for the spring and summer should have a healthy selection to pick from now. The PlayStation Days of Play sale lasts through June 9, so PlayStation fans have some time to pick what they want.
