A brief clip in the Sonic Central livestream indicates that a collaboration between Minecraft and the Blue Blur may be happening at some point.

Let it be never said that Minecraft is not a game that is about to give up the ghost any time soon. With the first part of the Caves & Cliffs update coming very soon, the juggernaut that is the blocky open world sandbox game is continuing to pull in millions of players each month and maintaining its place as one of the biggest selling games in history. It's hardly surprising then that some people may look to creating a crossover between it and other franchises.

In a recent report, it's been announced that a possible collaboration between Minecraft and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise may be in the pipeline. The information comes from the recent Sonic Central broadcast which was streamed earlier in the week. In the video, which is posted below, there is a very brief shot showing a close-up of Sonic's face built in the Minecraft world. It only lasts a second or two, so it's very easy to miss it. In fact, it's entirely possible that some who watched it may not have even picked up on it.

This very brief moment is also accompanied by a Minecraft chicken, so there's no mistaking where the clip comes from, and the voice-over announcing more information about future collaborations happening throughout the year. This could potentially hint at the possibility of something happening between the crafting game and the world-famous blue hedgehog. However, it's important to state that there has been no official word on anything from insiders or official sources, but the report seems confident that this means something is coming.

The source speculates that, if a collaboration is imminent, it's likely to be a skin pack. Skin packs are a very popular modification for Minecraft, such as when a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare player created a skin for the Captain Price character last summer. It barely needs to be said that the Mojang/Microsoft game is absolutely ripe for modification so the opportunity to capture the Sonic series is one that many will probably not want to miss out on.

As mentioned above, the video comes from the Sonic Central event which took place a few days ago. The broadcast was livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube and marked the 30th anniversary of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game. Seeing these two popular franchises come together is arguably something a lot of fans would love to see. At this early stage, however, it's uncertain exactly what's due in store, but it's likely people will know more about it soon.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
