Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade's release date is right around the corner, and some fans may be wondering exactly how they will get to play it.

One of the highest-rated PS4 exclusive games was 2020's Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which brought the PS1 classic's story to modern gamers with significantly improved graphics and a completely revamped combat system. Now Final Fantasy 7 Remake is coming to the PlayStation 5 as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which is set to have even more enhancements and will be debuting alongside some fresh DLC.

PlayStation 5 owners who already own Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra charge. However, the PS4 to PS5 upgrade for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is not quite as straightforward as it has been for other games.

Here is everything PS5 owners need to know about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade free upgrade.

Earlier this year, Sony gave away the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake for free to its PlayStation Plus subscribers. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake had strong sales, it's safe to say that there are many PS Plus subscribers added it to their collection through the PS Plus program. While being able to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake at no additional cost is a great deal, the PS Plus version does have a big catch when it comes to upgrading to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the PlayStation 5.

Unfortunately for PS Plus subscribers, the PS Plus version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is not eligible for the free PS5 upgrade. Those with the PlayStation Plus version of the game will have to actually buy the PS4 version or otherwise buy the PS5 version when it comes out for $69.99. This is especially disappointing for those who have already played through Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 thanks to PS Plus and are only introduced in the Yuffie DLC, as the Yuffie DLC is PlayStation 5 exclusive.

Those who own Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 will be able to upgrade to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on PS5 at no additional cost. However, that doesn't mean that they will also get the Yuffie DLC for free. While they will be able to enjoy all of the upgrades the PS5 version is bringing to the base game of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, those upgrading from PS4 will have to purchase the Yuffie DLC separately, with it retailing for $19.99.

There's an additional catch when it comes to the Yuffie DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. Those who decide to purchase the physical version of the game for the aforementioned $69.99 asking price should note that the DLC isn't actually on the disc. This means that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade players will still have to download the Yuffie DLC, regardless of if they own the physical disc or not.

For many players, this is only a minor inconvenience and likely won't impact their decision to buy the game or skip it. However, there are definitely those out there who are disappointed at the decision to leave Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade's Yuffie DLC off the disc.

Now that Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans with PlayStation 5 consoles understand how the free upgrade process works and what it means for the Yuffie DLC, they may be wondering exactly what the point of the port is. As is the case with many PlayStation 4 games that have since made the leap to PS5, there are some key enhancements in the PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake that should go a long way in making the game worth checking out, even for those that have already played through it extensively on PS4.

The base game of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be unchanged in Intergrade in terms of content. However, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on PS5 will have superior graphics, with the option for players to switch between 4K resolution in Graphics Mode or for the game to deliver a consistent 60 frames per second in Performance Mode. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade also has a dedicated photo mode, which is a popular feature that was missing from the original release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PlayStation 4.

And like many other PlayStation 5 games, fans can expect Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade to take advantage of the console's unique features. This will likely mean faster load times when compared to the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, not to mention the game making use of the PS5's DualSense controller's haptic feedback.

It should be noted that those who have started Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 will be able to pick up where they left off if they decide to get Final Fantasy 7 Remake IntergradeFinal Fantasy 7 Remake PS4 save files carry over to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, so no worries there.

With the Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS5 version differences and free upgrade information in mind, the only question that remains is when exactly fans will get to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. Luckily, the wait is almost over, as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and its Yuffie DLC are set to launch on June 10, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Whether or not the game will come to other platforms at some point down the line remains to be seen. Sony has worked with Square Enix to extend Final Fantasy 7 Remake's PlayStation exclusivity, but one has to imagine that it will at least come to PC at some point down the line, if not competing consoles like Xbox Series X. However, that's just speculation at this time, and so anyone interested in playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade should not that the only way they will be able to do so is with a PS5 come June 10.
