June 2021's Xbox Games with Gold still has no Xbox Series X title, putting subscribers at a disadvantage compared to PS Plus players.

Several days ago, Microsoft unveiled June's roster of Xbox Free Games with Gold. To no surprise, the games that Microsoft will offer to Xbox Live Gold subscribers were mostly met with disapproval from gamers. Looking at the announcement trailer on YouTube reflects what players think of next month's roster, given that the amount of dislikes outweighs likes at the time of writing.

Apart from the lackluster roster, one huge problem that has been a trend for Xbox Live Gold subscribers remains: the lack of Xbox Series X/S games. At this point, it is clear that Microsoft probably has no intentions of adding support to its new consoles, especially since most of the company's efforts are being poured into the Xbox Game Pass.

It has been six months since Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X and S, which are the company's latest consoles. Ever since the consoles were launched, it has been a mystery why Microsoft is unable to include Xbox Series X/S games on Xbox Games with Gold. The exception to this is February's roster of free games, which included an Xbox Series X/S optimized version of Gears 5. However, players should take note of the timing this exception was made.

In February, Microsoft made headlines when it announced that it would be raising the subscription price of Xbox Live Gold. Unsurprisingly, this announcement was met with serious backlash from the Xbox community, forcing Microsoft to abandon its plans to raise prices in less than 24 hours. In what appears to be an attempt to rectify its mistake, Microsoft February's roster of Xbox Free Games with Gold not only offered the Xbox Series X/S optimized version of Gears 5, but it also included several triple-A titles such as the remake of the first Resident Evil.

Of course, now that more players are slowly transitioning from the Xbox One to the Xbox Series X/S, the lack of support for Xbox Live Gold subscribers poses a huge problem for Microsoft. With the continuous disappointment over its roster of Free Games with Gold, it appears that Microsoft remains unfazed, and it is possible that the company wants Xbox players to leave Xbox Live Gold and switch to Xbox Game Pass.

It is worth noting that ever since the release of the PS5 last November, Sony has consistently included a PS5 game on its PS Plus service. Although most PS5 games included in PS Plus over the past few months were indie games, PlayStation players still welcomed these titles, given that they were able to utilize the features the new console offers. Additionally, this led to some Xbox players questioning why Microsoft is unable to include support for its new consoles, especially since subscribers are left at a disadvantage compared to the benefits PS5 players get.

Again, it is difficult to pinpoint the true intentions of Microsoft, given that the company has never responded to the negative criticisms hurled at Xbox Live Gold. However, based on everything the company has done for Xbox Live Gold in the past year, one couldn't help but think whether this is just Microsoft's discreet way of telling players to dump Xbox Live Gold and switch to either Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

In the end, it is a mystery why Microsoft won't just shut down Xbox Live Gold if it wants Live Gold subscribers to switch to Game Pass. If access to paid online multiplayer games is the only issue, the company can integrate that feature to Xbox Game Pass or just let players who need it subscribe to the slightly more expensive Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
