Subnautica: Below Zero players can add new levels of verticality to their underwater bases by using the Vertical Connector piece when building.

Building bases is an important step that all players will eventually take in Subnautica: Below Zero, but it is up to the player just how complex these bases will be. While there's certainly nothing wrong with building a base that spreads out horizontally on a single plane, players can get a lot out of using vertical space as well. In order to build bases in this way and use the three dimensional nature of the underwater space, players will need to build Vertical Connectors. These items allow the player to build up as well as out when crafting their base.

In order to build a Vertical Connector, players will first need to get the Habitat Builder. This is the item that allows players to make bases in the first place, so it's likely that most Subnautica: Below Zero players already have this if they are starting to explore verticality in this aspect.

To craft a Vertical Connector, players just need to use two Titanium in conjunction with the Habitat Builder. Since this is one of the most common resources in the game, players should have no trouble finding it. At this point, the piece is placed in the same way that any base piece is placed, but there are a few important restrictions. At the time of writing, Vertical Connectors can only be attached to the I Compartment, I Glass Compartment on the bottom, T Compartment, and X Compartment base modules. There aren't any other base modules that can accommodate this piece other than more Vertical Connectors.

After building the Vertical Connector, players may also be confused about how to actually traverse it and reach other levels of the base. There's no water inside the base so players can't simply swim up, meaning instead they will need a ladder. Although it is certainly odd, the nice thing about this is that one ladder is sufficient no matter how tall the Vertical Connector is. In other words, placing one ladder in this piece will work whether it is just a single piece or four Vertical Connectors stacked on top of one another.

The applications of the Vertical Connector are obvious, but it can be difficult to understand at first. Players might find themselves trying to attach it to an incompatible module or uncertain of how to traverse it once it is built. Hopefully these tips help players literally bring their seabases to the next level.
