The original Little Nightmares is getting more attention after Steam gives it away for free, prompting many to search for a secret ending.

It isn't uncommon for games these days to feature multiple endings. There's usually a good ending that happens if the player meets certain conditions, a bad ending that will occur if the player messed something up along the way, and sometimes a secret ending that requires a good deal of grinding to get. With Steam giving away Little Nightmares for free last weekend, many players are wondering whether or not this game features multiple endings in that style. Players coming from the sequel Little Nightmares 2 will remember that it had a secret ending for devoted players, but are probably wondering if the same holds true for its predecessor.

Little Nightmares released in 2017, but its great success spurred on another sequel. The ending of the original game is pretty dark, though, so it's understandable that players might be curious as to whether or not there was another way.

Unfortunately, there is only one ending in the original Little Nightmares. It seems like the developers didn't jump on the multiple endings train until the second game. While this may be disappointing for some, it does come with an upside that players should not forget. This means that there isn't any major consequences for those that don't want to take the time to gather up every collectible in the game. There are quite a few to be found, so this will save players a lot of time. Instead, they can simply focus on playing through the game and enjoying one of the best horror games of 2017 for what it is without constantly referencing a checklist.

Some players have reported that the ending changes slightly depending on how many Nomes the player has hugged along the way. During the final cutscene, Nomes can be seen watching as Six leaves the Maw, and supposedly they increase in number to mirror the amount that the player hugged. Even if this is the case, it is such a minor detail that players really shouldn't worry about hugging Nomes just for this purpose.

Little Nightmares has been praised for its eerie atmosphere, engaging story, and grotesque visuals, so players should certainly take advantage of Steam's generous offer. At the time of writing, the game is no longer available for free, but those that still find themselves interested can purchase it for its standard price of $19.99. There's also some DLC that players can get to go along with it, and those that just can't get enough of this universe can continue on to Little Nightmares 2.

Little Nightmares is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
