Making a full melee-build is possible in Biomutant. Here are some of the best builds to employ if you enjoy melee combat the most.

Employing a melee build in an open-world RPG title is a very common choice. After all, it is the easiest to master, and utilizing a hack-and-slash strategy in a game that berates its players with multiple enemies at once is very effective. If the player prefers wielding melee weapons when playing RPGs, they'll have a blast playing Biomutant.

This game houses a myriad of incredible melee weapons that they can either purchase, earn as rewards, or personally craft. With this in mind, the player can then start the game and keep a specific build in mind centered around melee combat so they can work their way up effectively. These builds are the best ones players can follow for melee combat in Biomutants.

7 Crush-Wielding Sentinel

Crush weapons in Biomutant have some of the highest base damages the game has to offer. The only thing is, they can also have low attack speeds. In order to utilize this weapon properly, the player will need to be extra sturdy so they can take damage without worries while flailing around their heavy weapon.

  • Class - Sentinel
  • Breed - Dumdon
  • Weapon Type - Crush
  • Stat Priority - Vitality, Strength
  • Perks - Adrenaline, Whet, Toughness, Medic, Ricochet, Invincibility, Knock
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Crush Wung-Fu abilities

While the Hyla breed better suits the Sentinel class, the player should opt for the Dumdon breed for this build instead since it has the highest starting melee damage bonus. The player should maintain a fair allocation of points between Vitality and Strength to bolster both offense and defense.

6 Dual-Wielding Saboteur

The Dual-Wielding Saboteur build is for players who enjoy the fluidity of using two melee weapons at once. Although this build inflicts the highest base damage, the end result will ultimately remain similar given how many attacks the player can inflict in a short span of time.

  • Class - Saboteur
  • Breed - Dumdon
  • Weapon Type - Dual-wield
  • Stat Priority - Strength, Agility
  • Perks - Whet, Hypergenetic, Agile, Moving Target
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Twin Silver Grip and other Dual-Wield Wung-Fu abilities

The Saboteur class already comes with the Twin Silver Grip ability, which allows melee dual wielding. The player can opt for any one-hand slash weapons. As much as this build is about the wielding of two weapons, it is also about mobility. With this in mind, the player should maintain a balance between Strength and Agility when upgrading stats.

5 Versatile Mercenary

The Mercenary class is only available to those who pre-ordered the game. This class promotes versatility. With that in mind, those who play melee while minimally utilizing other combat elements such as range and psi-powers can find balance in the Mercenary class.

  • Class - Mercenary
  • Breed - Murgel
  • Weapon Type - Any melee weapon
  • Stat Priority - Strength, Agility
  • Perks - Adrenaline, Whet, Fury, Invincibility, Brutality
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Any

While the Mercenary class is all about being diverse, those who opt for melee builds will ultimately prioritize this aspect of the game. For this build, while the player can choose ranged weapons and Psi-powers, the main focus should still be on the Strength stat. The player can also pick or swap between various melee weapons, whichever they feel comfortable with.

4 Nimble Slasher

Two-handed slash weapons are very incredible to use. Not only do they feel very familiar and at home considering the game's genre, but they also have some of the highest damage outputs in the game. Similar to crush weapons, though, two-handed slash weapons can also have incredibly slow wind-ups. This, however, doesn't mean the player isn't allowed to be creative in the game. This is what the Nimble Slasher build will highlight.

  • Class - Saboteur
  • Breed - Hyla
  • Weapon Type - Two-handed Slash weapons
  • Stat Priority - Strength, Agility
  • Perks - Adrenaline, Whet, Hypergenetic, Agile, Moving Target, Evasive
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Two-handed Slash Wung-Fu abilities

For this build to properly work, the player will need to properly balance three things from the game's mechanics — raw power, vitality, and mobility. The Saboteur class ensures proper mobility. The Hyla breed gives players resilience. The damage is ultimately drawn from the effectiveness of the two-handed slash weapon.

3 Ultimate Tank

Thanks to the Sentinel class, the player can play this game from start to finish playing as an ultimate tank build. This will make the player highly resistant to almost every single attack. Of course, this won't make them invincible, but it's the closest the player can come to that in Biomutant.

  • Class - Sentinel
  • Breed - Hyla
  • Weapon Type - Any
  • Stat Priority - Vitality
  • Perks - Adrenaline, Toughness, Medic, Ricochet, Invincibility, Knock
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Any

The player can use whichever melee weapon they are comfortable with this build. The main highlight of this is the increase in health and armor. The Sentinel class and the Hyla breed already provide a healthy initial increase in Vitality. The player can only move up from there. They should also wear armor sets that have the perfect balance between armor and health.

2 Melee-Mage

Just because the player is employing a melee build, it doesn't mean they can't make use of the game's various Psi-Powers. That's what this build is for. Pairing the Psi-Freak class with any weapon the player is comfortable with is the central basis of this build.

  • Class - Psi-Freak
  • Breed - Fip
  • Weapon Type - Any
  • Stat Priority - Strength, Intellect
  • Perks - Ki Energize, Adrenaline, Whet, Megamind, Nocturnal, Mind Melt, Psi Spikes, Brain Drain
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Any

Since this is a melee build, the player can simply use whichever weapon they're most happy with. The Psi-Freak build comes with the Spark Gloves and another that's similar but also more powerful can be earned later in the game, if the player wants to keep this weapon type. For the sake of consistency, if the player wants to strictly remain melee, a lot of the Biogenetics and Psi-Powers in the game are for melee combat. This includes Mud Punch, Blaze, Blink, and Freeze.

1 Critical Master

This build takes advantage of the critical chance mechanic to ensure the player can inflict the highest damage possible in the game. However, due to the critical chance being resource-demanding, this build also compromises paying attention to the stats that raise health and defense.

  • Class - Mercenary
  • Breed - Dumdon
  • Weapon Type - Dual-wield
  • Stat Priority - Luck
  • Perks - Whet, Brutality
  • Biogenetics and Psi-Powers - Any
  • Wung-Fu - Any

The Mercenary class is the best for this build because of its Brutality perk, which increases the critical damage of melee attacks by 10%. They should also maximize the Luck stat to further increase the critical chance. To top it all off, the player must find equipment that provides a boost to critical chance. Once the build is complete, the player will be a critical damage powerhouse.
