Nickelodeon gave fans their first glimpse of the characters and scenarios of The Patrick Star Show, which is set to debut in July.

For more than two decades, SpongeBob SquarePants has existed as one of the most lucrative properties associated with Nickelodeon, Paramount, and Viacom to this date. Now, courtesy of Nickelodeon, fans have their first glimpse of the characters and scenarios of The Patrick Star Show, which is set to debut later this summer.

The SpongeBob Squarepants franchise kickstarted a zeitgeist spawning three theatrically released feature films and many of its characters becoming household names. Now, with no end in sight for the original series and the announcement of new Spongebob-centric series such as Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, it was perhaps only a matter of time before fan-favorite sidekick Patrick Star received his own show.

The Patrick Star Show will shine a spotlight on Patrick Star and his family, following the starfish as he shoots a television show from his bedroom. Patrick is helped with his show by his adopted sister Squidina while his parents, Bunny and Cecil, and his grandfather, GrandPat, also support Patrick in a variety of comedic ways. Mainstays of the original series such as SpongeBob Squarepants will also be appearing in episodes of the series in some capacity.

Bill Fagerbakke, the original voice actor of Patrick Star, returns to the role for The Patrick Star Show. The series will also feature a slew of talented voice actors including Cree Summer, Tom Wilson, Jill Talley, and Dana Snyder. Vincent Waller, a producer of the original SpongeBob series since 2005, is co-producing alongside Marc Ceccarelli and Jennie Monica. Many other members of the Spongebob series will serve on the creative team for The Patrick Star Show, which was developed by Nickelodeon Animation Studios.

Patrick Star is an icon of pop culture and is certain to bring attention to the series from longtime fans of SpongeBob, as well as kids from around the world. In this era, many SpongeBob fans believe it's time for the series to come to an end, as those fans don't want the series to continue releasing season after season in a similar manner to FOX Entertainment's The Simpsons. So it will be interesting to see if a new focal character and new supporting cast members will be able to revitalize the franchise in a way that makes Bikini Bottom just as exciting of a setting as it was in the show's heyday.

The Patrick Star Show comes at a curious time for Viacom and its related companies, who are busy building the Paramount Plus streaming service. The burgeoning streamer will eventually house a monstrous catalog of film and television properties including Star TrekTransformersMission: ImpossibleThe Godfather, and shows famous for airing on CBS and Nickelodeon. Paramount Plus has hinted at a heavy reliance on well-known franchises to inspire upcoming content, including a CGI-animated series reboot of Rugrats as well as a series based on the Halo video game franchise. Not only this, but the streamer plans to release one original film onto the platform per month starting in 2022.

The Patrick Star Show will begin airing episodes on Nickelodeon this July.
