Amidst many complications, CD Projekt Red reported that its net profits are down, as well as announcing the start of a new big budget game for 2022.

Things haven't been looking good for CD Projekt Red lately. After releasing Cyberpunk 2077 last year in an unfinished state, CD Projekt Red is now facing a number of adverse effects, to the point where those negative effects have started to show more prominently in its sales figures.

Since the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has had various complications arise from outside sources. With numerous class-action lawsuits being filed against CD Projekt Red, as well as having the source code for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 stolen from the studio and sold on the dark web, CD Projekt Red has quite a long road ahead. However, the current sales figures for Cyberpunk 2077 certainly don't do anything to help the studio's situation.

According to a summary made by Nibel on Twitter, CD Projekt Red's net profits fell by 64.7% in Q1, critically missing market expectations. In many ways, this makes a lot of sense, considering that the current state of Cyberpunk 2077 is still far from what most people were expecting at launch. However, despite the net loss CD Projekt Red has received, the studio remains committed to its work and even announced something quite big.

From what was said in the report, CD Projekt Red will be starting "high-budget developments" in 2022, as well as look into new acquisitions. This could mean that CD Projekt Red will be starting development on a new franchise at the beginning of next year, but as of right now it's too early to tell, especially considering all of the patches that Cyberpunk 2077 still needs in order to run properly, as well as the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC that's supposed to release later this year.

Despite everything that has transpired following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, it's fairly admirable of CD Projekt Red to remain steadfast during the course of everything that has happened. In fact, CD Projekt Red recently assigned a new game director to Cyberpunk 2077 who will oversee the development of the DLC and additional bug fixes made to the game.

Right now, the situation surrounding CD Projekt Red is in desperate need of improvement. With Cyberpunk 2077 still missing from the PlayStation Store, along with a laundry list of other ongoing issues, the current circumstances seem rather bleak. While there are still many fans that remain hopeful for a potential comeback, that will likely be a ways off.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are currently in development.
