Nvidia announces the release date and price for its new RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards, leading many to hope they can buy one.

Many people have been trying to get their hands on an RTX 3000 series graphics card with many people being unsuccessful in their attempts. Today, Nvidia announced the release date and pricing for its RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti. Many people may hope that this will make it easier to get a new GPU.

In the middle of the current GPU shortage, news of Nvidia’s RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti should be something many gamers get excited about. Many gamers, however, may be curious about availability considering the current shortages. With release dates and pricing information, gamers can only hope that the release of these new Ti series cards will allow them to get their hands on a new RTX 3000 series GPU this year.

Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti will be available on June 3, 2021, with a retail price starting at $1199. Running on Nvidia’s latest Ampere architecture, Nvidia promises 1.5 times the performance over the previous generation’s RTX 2080 Ti. While the RTX 3080 Ti may look similar to its little brother, the RTX 3080, the RTX 3080 Ti offers more power.

Equipped with 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM, the RTX 3080 Ti offers an extra 2GB over the RTX 3080, but still less than the RTX 3090 and its 24GB. The power draw of the new RTX 3080 Ti will increase to match the RTX 3090 at 350W TDP. This increase in power may lead to concerns over the 3080 Ti’s cooling capabilities, but consumers will have to wait on thermal testing results when they become available.

Lunching a week later, on June 10, 2021, Nvidia’s RTX 3070 Ti will hit the market and offer a more affordable RTX option at $599. With 8GB of GDDR6X VRAM, Nvidia states the RTX 3070 Ti will be 1.5 times faster than the RTX 2070 Super. Both the RTX 3070 Ti and the RTX 3080 Ti will support Nvidia’s ray-tracing, DLSS, and Reflex technologies.

This sounds like splendid news on the surface, but it's important to mention that there is still a global superconductor shortage driving up the prices of GPUs. This same shortage is the reason many people have been failing to get a new gaming computer, PS5, or Xbox Series X. Nvidia acknowledged this problem a few months ago, warning consumers that supply issues may continue throughout the rest of 2021.

PC gamers and content creators shouldn’t get too excited about Nvidia’s new GPU releases because the superconductor shortage is still a problem. This shortage mixed with other outside factors like scalpers will make it difficult to get a new RTX 3070Ti, RTX 3080Ti, or any of Nvidia’s other GPUs.
