While the Swamp biomes in Valheim are home to some dangerous creatures, they also provide many of the items and materials necessary for progression. Players will have to explore the gloomy marshes to collect crucial resources and slay the mighty Bonemass.
At a certain point in Valheim, Bronze Armor will not provide enough protection to defeat higher-level enemies. Survivors must defeat Elder to gain access to the Swamp Sunken Crypts and begin crafting higher tier armor and weapons. There are hundreds of things people need to know about the Swamps, and this guide will try to cover them all as concisely as possible.

There are a number of valuable items in the Sunken Crypts. The most important of which are Scrap Iron and Chain. Scrap Iron can be smelted into Iron Metal, which is a step above the Bronze tier of weapons and armor. Chain will be needed later in the game when players are collecting Black Metal Scraps to craft Black Metal tier items.

Both of these materials can be found in the Crypt chests. Scrap Iron is also a drop from Mud piles in the Crypts. Other common essential items in the Crypts include Ancient Bark, Ooze, and Withered Bone. To summon Bonemass, survivors will need at least 10 Withered Bone.
In the Swamps, there are three resources all players will want to farm. Those three items are Ancient Bark, Guck, and Thistle. Ancient Bark is needed to craft some of the best weapons in Valheim, including the Draugr Fang, Frostner, and Iron Sledge. A Bronze Axe or better is needed to chop down the trees, which line the bayou.

Guck is a harvestable item that hangs on many of the Ancient Trees in the Swamp biome. Getting to the gucksacks is tricky because players will have to build a platform to reach them. Despite the hassle, harvesting Guck is worth the effort. Without the small green material, survivors will not be able to craft the Draugr Fang, the best bow in the game. Finally, Thistle is a key ingredient in Frost and Poison resistance meads, which are important in the late game.
There are a total of eight creatures in the Swamp biome. Surtlings, Leeches, Skeletons, and Blobs are relatively easy to take down. Surtlings only have 20 health and can be killed with one blow. The same goes for skeletons with just 40 health. Leeches can cause a poison status effect but can be avoided as they are only found submerged in the marshes. Blobs are vulnerable creatures as well with 50 health, but they can poison survivors.

The enemies that pose a threat are the Draugr, Draugr Elite, Oozers, and Wraith. The undead Draugr have 100 health and can dish out a decent amount of damage. At a low level, they can be powerful. Draugr Elite are even stronger with 200 health. Elite can inflict 58 slash damage per hit.
Oozers have 50 less health than Elites but have a poison AOE that adds up to 90 damage. The effects cannot be blocked, and a dead Oozer will release multiple Blobs for survivors to fight. The final creature in the biome is the Wraith. While they are not too much of a threat on their own, they are a nightmare when fighting other enemies at the same time. Listed below are all of the creature drops.
- Blob: Ooze, Blob Trophy
- Draugr: Entrails, Draugr Trophy
- Draugr Elite: Entrails, Draugr Elite Trophy
- Leech: Bloodbag, Leech Trophy
- Oozer: Ooze, Scrap Iron
- Surtling: Surtling Core, Coal, Surtling Trophy
- Skeleton: Bone Fragments, Skeleton Trophy
- Wraith: Chain, Wraith Trophy
Another main danger in the Swamp is susceptibility to cold. Because it is constantly raining in the Swamps, characters will get cold faster and more often. Crafting the Wolf Armor and Wolf Fur Cape will help with cold resistance. Poison is also a common affliction in the biome too.
Multiple creatures can inflict poison status effects, so it helps to have Poison Resistance Mead on hand at all times. A general lack of visibility is something everyone has to handle while traversing the haunted biome. Also, watch out for Wraiths in abandoned houses, they can and will catch people off guard.
There are far too many items in the Swamps to cover each in detail. Below are all of the remaining items that can be found in chests and throughout the biome.
- Turnip Seeds: Harvestable
- Leather Scraps: Found in Mud Piles
- Amber/Amber Pearl: Chest Drop
- Ironhead/Poison Arrow: Chest Drop
- Ruby: Chest Drop
