Crash Bandicoot is regarded by many as one of the most beloved video game franchises ever made. While the series went on hiatus for several years, Crash Bandicoot has been making a major comeback since the release of the N. Sane Trilogy, which came out in 2017. This recent boost in popularity has made him a candidate for the next DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
With the release of Crash Bandicoot 4 last year, the series has managed to cultivate an ever-growing following of new fans, in addition to the old-school fans who grew up with Crash Bandicoot during the PS1 days. For this reason, many fans consider both the legacy and the newfound success of Crash Bandicoot to be reason enough to welcome him into the ranks of Super Smash Bros.

A recent Twitter post made by the official Crash Bandicoot Twitter account celebrated the rapidly approaching 25th anniversary of the series. The post featured two pictures of Crash going through his belongings from a first-person perspective. Although, when asked about what Crash Bandicoot should accomplish before the 25th anniversary, fans mentioned an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The replies were then flooded with Smash Bros.-related messages.
There have already been characters from beloved franchises that have made it into Super Smash Bros. The fact that Banjo-Kazooie, a character that hasn't had a mainline game in over a decade, made it in means that a character like Crash Bandicoot would make a strong contender, at least in terms of another third-party character making an appearance on Smash Bros.
Right now, there hasn't been anything officially released from any of the involved parties that would indicate that Crash is coming to Super Smash Bros. Other than the Crash Bandicoot devs wanting the character to be in Super Smash Bros., there hasn't been any sort of response by Nintendo to make it happen. There haven't even been any rumors that would point to Crash being the next in line to be in Super Smash Bros.
Then again, seemingly less likely characters have made appearances in Super Smash Bros. and gone on to become more popular. For instance, Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles' arrival in Super Smash Bros. was not only unexpected, but also allowed the Xenoblade franchise to be noticed by new players. In any case, it will be interesting to see if Crash manages to claim a spot in the final Smash Bros. fighters pass.
