A mod is released for classic Resident Evil 2, putting players in the shoes of Lieutenant Marvin Branagh and Officer Rita Phillips.

A new mod for Resident Evil 2 puts players in the shoes of Lieutenant Marvin Branagh in the events leading up to the start of Resident Evil 2. As a high-ranking officer at the Raccoon City Police Department, Branagh played a critical role in the response to the initial T-virus outbreak. During the beginning of Resident Evil 2, Leon Kennedy arrives at the Raccoon City Police Department on his first day on the job and is briefed about the situation by Branagh. Now, players will get to experience the hours before Kennedy's arrival and the attempted lockdown of the police station.

Created by modder Aydan Watkins, the Resident Evil 2 prequel, dubbed Marvin's Mod, players control Marvin Branagh accompanied by Officer Rita Phillips, who later escapes the Raccoon City Police Station in the events of Resident Evil 2. Marvin's Mod uses many classic assets from Resident Evil 2, allowing players to experience original PlayStation-like gameplay.

In order to play the Resident Evil 2 prequel Marvin's Mod, fans just have to go to the official website to download it. It does not require players to own Resident Evil 2 to run it. In the official trailer, Lt. Branagh fights his way through the police station with the help of Rita Phillips, encountering police officers infected by the T-virus, zombie dogs, a licker, and what looks like a G-type zombie. Players will also come across a few side characters from Resident Evil 2 and interact with other police officers around the station.

Marvin's Mod gives players a whole new perspective about the events in the Raccoon City police department before the Resident Evil 2 protagonists show up. While it is fan-made and not canon, it may shed a little light on Marvin Branagh's situation from the eyes of modder Aydan Watkins, who has created various Resident Evil mods, including one that puts players in the shoes of Ada Wong and another that allows players to play as The Hunter.

Resident Evil is certainly a popular series to mod, as fans have put out various mods ranging from a fixed camera in Resident Evil 7 to ridiculous ones like changing characters to Family Guy stars or turning Nemesis into Shrek.

Recently, Capcom hosted a Resident Evil showcase event revealing details about the upcoming title Resident Evil: Village and gaiving a solid release date of May 7, 2021. While players wait for the release of Resident Evil: Village, they can revisit the Raccoon City Police Station in Marvin's Mod.

Marvin's Mod is available for PC now.
