Thought it has been years since production stopped on the Nintendo Wii U, the console and its games have been well remembered. Every once in a while, the Wii U even ends up trending on Twitter for various reasons. One game studio liked the Wii U so much that it made a holiday-themed game available for the Wii U eShop, but just released it this January.
Ultra Dolphin Revolution is an indie game developer that specializes in retro-styled games for Nintendo consoles. Making games for older consoles isn't unheard of, as there are studios that still make games for the Game Boy. This indie developer has made several action arcade games for the Wii U such as Shadow Archer, Space Hunted, and Spellcaster's Assistant.

Ultra Dolphin Revolution released Seasonal Assistant this week, which is a festive spin-off of Spellcaster’s Assistant. This magical retro arcade game is currently only on the Wii U. The game has eight holiday-themed levels, and players use different festive magic and power-ups to get through the game. The studio comically tweeted that the game, instead of being late for the 2020 holidays, was just "super early for the 2021 holidays."
It is interesting the Ultra Dolphin Revolution is releasing games like Seasonal Assistant exclusively on the Wii U, even though also releasing the game on a console like the Nintendo Switch would probably increase its playerbase. While it's unknown how may players will still have access to this game, it's a nice thought for the developers to keep adding some new adventures to the Wii U. Adding new content for the console will at least balance out many apps such as Netflix being discontinued on the Wii U.
The Wii U has quite the lasting power, especially since many players have Wii U exclusive games they want to come to modern consoles. Seasonal Assistant looks like it is a cute enough game, and hopefully some gamers who still play on the Wii U will want to try it out.
Seasonal Assistant is available now on the Wii U eShop.
