Developer Asmodev's Inquisitor: The Hammer has a new name, one that is perhaps more fitting to the game's dark ages and firey tone.

With a new name and a horrifying setting, Mercyful Flames looks to bring an immersive RPG that is based on horror board games to the PC and Nintendo Switch. If the new teaser trailer is proof of anything, the game is grim, creative, and torturing; the type of game that will bring psychological scares to many players.

Developer Asmodev just released a new trailer for its game Mercyful Flames and for anyone following the game Inquisitor: The Hammer of Witches, it may look a bit familiar. Ultimately,  Asmodev decided to change the title to Mercyful Flames, as the original sounded a bit clunky. This new name not only rolls off the tongue a bit better, but it also works very well with the theme of the game itself, which revolves around disturbing cults during the dark ages, as well as torture, fire, and burning at the stake.

Mercyful Flames is a detective RPG game; an adventure and slow-paced and methodical one. Players investigate, bribe, make difficult decisions, fight, and even torture. To save a beloved, players must join the ranks of a bloodthirsty cult-like church and be involved in unthinkable things.

Humans seem to be wearing masks in Mercyful Flames, almost in a similar eerie way as in We Happy Few. Of course, the settings are very different, but there could end up being some similarities. As far as the features of Mercyful Flames, players will track down opponents to stop their plans, explore the world of the dark ages, develop skills with God's grace, accuse villagers of witchcraft, develop torturing machines, burn the enemies of the church, and much more.

Mercyful Flames is in development now for the PC and Nintendo Switch.
