The end of the Johto region throwbacks in Pokemon GO is almost here, but there is still one Legendary Battle Raid boss to revisit before officially moving on. Entei is long gone and Raikou has just a few days left in the spotlight, which means it is almost time for Suicune to take over the five-star spot for a week.
Suicune may not be the most meta relevant of the Johto Beasts trio, but it is still a powerful Legendary and a popular Pokemon for PvP and some PvE matchups in Pokemon GO. That means that trainers will likely want to revisit this old Battle Raid boss at least a few times for a chance to earn some rewards and an encounter.

A lot has changed in the world of Pokemon GO since Suicune originally appeared as a Battle Raid boss in the very earliest days of PoGO Battle Raids. Although many players likely had a strong counter lineup at the time, the addition of new evolutions, new move sets, and the availability of Mega Evolutions mean that the top tier counters today look very different than they did a few years back.
Suicune is a Legendary Water-type, which means that players are going to want to focus on its weaknesses to Electric- and Grass-type Pokemon. There are plenty of strong options, so hopefully trainers can use this list to pull together a supreme counter roster....
Venusaur (Mega) - Vine Whip/Frenzy Plant
Zekrom - Charge Beam/Wild Charge
Electivire - Thunder Shock/Wild Charge
Raikou - Volt Switch/Wild Charge
Zapdos - Thunder Shock/Thunderbolt/
Magnezone - Spark/Wild Charge
Luxray - Spark/Wild Charge
Roserade - Razor Leaf/Grass Knot
Sceptile - Fury Cutter/Frenzy Plant
Gengar (Mega) - Lick/Shadow Ball
Trainers should always remember that the list presented represents the absolute best counters and move sets based on the current meta game. It's not the end of the world if any trainers can't pull together a roster of that quality though. The main thing to keep in mind is that the selected roster should focus on using the best Electric- and Grass-type Pokemon available.
As long as players team up with a decent group of other trainers and avoid Suicune's resistances, it should be possible to win the raid and move on to the encounter. Keep in mind that team and damage bonuses can help players secure additional Premium Pokeballs to use during the reward encounter though, so being a top damage dealer has its perks.
Over the next week or so players should begin to learn a lot more about what other events are on the way in February. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
