Befriending the Wizard in Stardew Valley can give players a variety of benefits, but the magical man likes some gifts more than others.

Stardew Valley is filled with a variety of different characters with their own likes and dislikes. Befriending these characters may require some trial and error when it comes to figuring out these interests, but its usually worth pursuing their friendships.

One character that is definitely worth becoming friends with in Stardew Valley is the Wizard. His real name being M. Rasmodius, the Wizard lives in his tower that is hidden within the western side of Cindersap Forest. He is also the person to help players understand the Junimos that live in the Pelican Town Community Center.

While players can start getting various gifts from the Wizard as they grow closer to him, these aren't the biggest benefit from his friendship. The real important thing is access to the Wizard's basement which is unlocked after players reach four hearts of affection with him. This allows players to change their name, gender, appearance, and favorite thing for 500g.

The Wizard has multiple items that he loves, which will help increase friendship with him quickly. The ones more specific to him are Purple Mushrooms, Solar Essence, Super Cucumbers, and Void Essence. He also loves all items that are considered to be universal loves by all other villagers. These items are Golden Pumpkins, Magic Rock Candy, Pearls, Prismatic Shards, and Rabbit's Feet.

With some of the Wizard's loved items being a bit difficult to find for some, players can also take advantage of the Wizard's liked items. These items are Quartz, Artisan goods, Cooked Recipes, Flowers, Foraged Minerals, Fruit Tree Fruits, Gems, Vegetables, Life Elixer, Maple Syrup, and all minerals obtained from geodes.

Some of the broader categories listed within the Wizard's likes have some exceptions. These items are Oil, Void Mayonnaise, Fried Eggs, Bread, Strange Buns, Seafoam Pudding, Poppies, Bananas, Mangos, Hops, Tea Leaves, Wheat, and Unmilled Rice.

As players pursue their friendship with the Wizard, there aren't really any heart event cutscenes for them to witness. Even the unlocking of the basement at four hearts is just mentioned through casual conversation. Players however will start eventually getting gifts from the Wizard in the mail. These gifts can be a Fire Quartz, a Frozen Tear, Jade, or a Purple Mushroom.

Compared to other villagers, it is much easier to talk to the Wizard after gaining initial access to his home. This is due to the Wizard never leaving his tower unless it is for Stardew Valley festivals, making him very easy to find for gift giving. His tower additionally opens earlier than the majority of other homes with it opening up at 6 am in in-game time.

Stardew Valley is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
