Xbox reveals the ways it is going to celebrate Black History Month throughout February by focusing on different events, rewards, and content.

In celebration of Black History Month, Xbox is preparing a host of plans. Xbox is seeking to elevate black communities by performing a multitude of events, highlights, and rewards throughout the month of February.

While some celebrations occurred throughout the early 20th century, Black History Month became an official national observance in 1976 thanks to President Gerald Ford. Flash forward to today, and Xbox is a global console platform that reaches many diverse communities. The group is planning to make use of its reach by supporting content creators and raising awareness.

The Black History Month announcement on Xbox Wire is filled with a variety of ways Xbox is planning on celebrating. First off, there is going to be an emphasis on games, movies, and shows that bring focus to Black creators, protagonists, and more. These include titles like Apex Legends with Bangalore and Lifeline, as well as movies like Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. The Xbox Community Game Hub is going to be a part too. Throughout the month, the hub will bring attention to creators, characters, and voice actors, and people will be able to discuss their favorite titles and the importance of representation.

All livestreaming content by Xbox during February will also center on Black developers, streamers, and more. Each week takes on a new subject that will be discussed through the Xbox Twitch channel. Those who would like to contribute to various organizations supporting these communities also have a venue this month. Microsoft Rewards Members can earn points that can go toward the NAACP, Black Girls Code, and Gameheads.

With race still being a turbulent issue in the United States in particular, it is great that Xbox is stepping up. With such a massive influence, the group can support communities in a lot of different ways. Some companies shoot out a tweet or post historical facts, but Xbox appears to be going further this year, with everything from games and movies to livestreams and donations seeing support.

Even with all the events coming for February, some may want more from Xbox, especially given many of the games and movies from the list are not new experiences. With gaming as widespread as it is, players may wonder why small developers are not getting as much attention. Independent games can be the most successful and culturally expressive experiences available. That said, it does look like Xbox is working to support these communities and address racial injustice through its Black History Month event this year.
