If someone loves Torchlight III's unique fantasy world filled with magic, they should check out these great anime series.

Set in a high fantasy world, Torchlight III takes players on an isometric dungeon-crawling adventure much like the previous games in the series, although with better visuals and some other new features that will likely intrigue fans of the franchise. In typical action RPG fashion, gamers can slash and smash foes with swords and maces, though can also blast enemies with all manner of satisfying spells. Another form of media that has immense amounts of hack and slash glory and generously dosed with magical might is the Japanese originated animation style known to the world simply as "anime."

There are a tremendous number of genres under the wide anime umbrella, however, one of the most fantastic in terms of scratching the itches gamers often feel when consuming content is the high fantasy genre. Players who enjoy the vivid world, versatile characters, and escapism of Torchlight III will certainly love a few of the more renowned anime series' boasting similar traits.

10 Dog Days

In the world of Flonyard, an alternate version of Earth where people have the traits of certain animals, there is a war raging between two opposing factions: the Republic of Biscotti and the Galette Leo Knights. In a high fantasy setting where people have the ears, tails, and ferocity of beasts, there are plenty of magic-filled battles to enjoy.

However, Dog Days has an even balance between the magical action and other elements, like light-hearted comedic conversations and character developing moments. One of the biggest praises this show has received is that it starts off very relaxed yet gradually becomes more dramatic for a genuinely satisfying sense of progression.

9 .hack//Sign

As an anime set in a video game world, players of Torchlight III will be able to relate to the characters very well. The story of .hack//Sign revolves around a young man named Tsukasa who wakes up in an MMORPG and realizes that he cannot log out. He sets out on a quest to learn how and why he is trapped in this virtual world.

Along his journey, Tsukasa meets other players who grow curious about his predicament and volunteer to help him on his adventure to learn more about his dilemma and how to solve it. There's much ARPG combat to enjoy on-screen, though without the viewer needing to do anything. It may even give a few people cravings to boot up and play similar games.

8 D.N.Angel

Here is an easy-going show about a clumsy teenager named Daisuke Niwa who learns that his family has been keeping a secret from him. He has the power to transform into a more capable body, though one meant for stealing valuable art. This transformation magic was inherited through his family's bloodline, which his mother has great plans for in terms of accumulating wealth.

However, Daisuke is not the only one with shapeshifting powers, as learns that one of his classmates is also capable of similar feats, albeit for vastly different reasons. Because of this split between his different forms, young Daisuke begins having trouble coping with change as well as developing complications with family and friends. D.N.Angel is an ideal show for those who enjoy more laid-back anime that focuses on magic in more realistic urban settings.

7 Tsubasa Chronicle

Tsubasa Chronicles follows Syaoran as he tracks down these memory feathers to help restore the princess' mind. On this quest, he is joined by the exiled ninja Kurogane, the whimsical wizard Fay, and an adorable bunny-like creature named Mokona. Those who enjoy dimension traveling, a variety of high fantasy settings, and subtle romantic elements will surely enjoy this show.

6 Magic Knight Rayearth

Starting off like many shows in this genre, high schoolers Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu get whisked away while on a field trip to a realm full of magic and monsters. As soon as they set foot in this mystical dimension, they are met by a renowned magic-user named Clef, who explains that the three girls were summoned here, to the world of Cephiro, by the princess in order to become protector knights of the realm.

However, Princess Emeraude is being held captive by the High Priest Zagato, and it is up to the newly knighted young women to rescue her and save Cephiro from evil. Fans and critics alike praise Magic Knight Rayearth for its beautiful animation and the strong relationships between the protagonists that keep viewers hooked and make them care about Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu's endeavors.

5 Overlord

Set in a VR game's dynamic world, Momonga decides to sit upon the lordly throne of his powerful character and reminisce about his accomplishments during the game's final moments. The servers of the game Yggdrasil are scheduled to go offline, though after the appointed time Momonga finds that the game continues, however, with some key differences.

The most important of which is that the NPCs seem to develop personalities of their own. Curious about this odd phenomenon, Momonga begins searching for answers while being aided by his in-game minions. Overlord puts a new spin on the "trapped in a video game world" genre in that it shows the desires and intent of a power-hungry megalomaniac as opposed to a teenager with more spunk than sense.

4 Slayers

The greedy mage Lina Inverse galavants about the world, stealing treasure from bandits with an arsenal of spells at her command. On her adventures, she meets the noble swordsman Gourry Gabriev, who acts as a righteous foil to Lina's avaricious nature.

Slayers from the mid-'90s holds many of the more loved tropes of action-adventure high fantasy anime in that there's plenty of cool battle scenes, unique characters with great chemistry, and a setting where unpredictable events keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

3 Dorohedoro

The first episode of Dorohedoro reveals to the audience a brutal world where magic users reign supreme and dominate much of the land, however, there are a few who oppose their might. Kaiman, a man who was cursed to have the head of a great lizard, finds himself immune to magic and uses this to his advantage as he hunts down mages in an attempt to learn of a way to remove his saurian curse.

Following Kaiman's quest, as well as his downtime where he enjoys dumplings at his favorite restaurant, viewers get treated to some very unique forms of magic as well as dark comedy interlaced with visceral combat. Those in search of an anime with one of the most original concepts ever conceived for television should definitely check Dorohedoro out. That is, if they have the stomach for it.

2 Hunter x Hunter

For anime-lovers who need more video game elements in their preferred shows that don't actually involve being in a video game setting (most of the time), Hunter x Hunter is an ideal choice. This tale follows Gon Freecss as he learns the ways of a treasure hunter and applies for a professional license that will grant him many boons and resources.

Along the way, Gon grows while making friends and enemies of all kinds. Each test set before young Gon will challenge his mind and body in unorthodox ways that force him to overcome his own weaknesses. The cast is as dynamic as the fascinating plot, both of which hold classic elements yet innovate in unexpected ways to make Hunter x Hunter one of the most renowned action-adventure anime of all time.

1 Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

As a remake of the legendary anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood follows the manga more closely in what many fans consider to be an improved version of the TV show. The progression and setting feel more real and the story progresses more fluidly than its predecessor, much to the enjoyment of audiences everywhere.

The story follows two brothers who have suffered greatly at the hand of a failed alchemic experiment as they attempt to become state alchemists and unlock the secrets of the world. The brothers, Edward and Alphonse, are written incredibly well and feel more like people than characters in an anime as they laugh, cry, and learn about the fascinating alchemy-powered world about them.
