While fans are looking forward to the sequel for Marvel’s Spider-Man, an interview with the hero's actor indicates it may still be far off.

Marvel’s Spider-Man proved that Insomniac understood Marvel’s most iconic hero, as the game told a Spidey story that embodies what makes the character so popular. Marvel’s Spider-Man also set up a sequel via a post credits scene, and while Insomniac is likely working on the game, it could be far off.

While players may be theorizing about Spider-Man villains that Peter Parker and Miles Morales could face, as well as what alternate costumes the heroes could be wearing in the sequel, that theorizing may be going on for some time to come. In a recent interview with Comic Book Movie, Spider-Man voice actor Yuri Lowenthal discusses what he is excited to see in the sequel. Beyond that, though, he confirms that he has not yet worked on the game.

Much like the situation with Genji’s voice actor and Overwatch 2, Yuri Lowenthal has not yet been contacted about the game. In the interview, the actor states “I keep waiting for my phone call,” which is a potential sign that the sequel is not far enough into development for dialogue to be recorded. While this is understandable given the fact that Spider-Man: Miles Morales only just released, fans expending for a quick turnaround may be disappointed to hear that the game is unlikely to release anytime soon.

Lowenthal gives a possible explanation for the delayed recording, however, as “with COVID, there’s no way we can get into a motion-capture on a grand scale with all the actors right now.” Adding that he wishes he knew more about the sequel for both fans and himself, the actor’s lack of info seems genuine. For the foreseeable future, it seems like fans will have to replay Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales if they want to spend time with Yuri Lowenthal’s Peter Parker.

While some fans took issue with the changes made to Peter Parker’s face model, Lowenthal’s performance as Spider-Man has been unanimously praised by fans and critics alike. While it will likely be some time before he is portraying the character again, Lowenthal shares that he is “just happy continuing to play the character” and explore Peter’s growing relationships with Miles and MJ. Lowenthal also highlights how not having Aunt May for guidance could be an interesting plot point in the sequel, ensuring fans that her loss will continue to be felt going forward.

The news of a sequel being far off is hardly the best, though knowing that Yuri Lowenthal will continue in the role whenever it does arrive is a positive takeaway. With great performances in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales behind him, it will be exciting to see what comes next when news on the game finally arrives.

Spider-Man Remastered is available on PS5 for owners of Spider-Man: Miles Morales' Ultimate Edition.
