Adam Conover confirms that there was a live action Legend of Zelda series in the works at Netflix, but that it was cancelled due to leaks.

Comedian/TV host and College Humor alumni Adam Conover has revealed some information regarding the long-rumored live-action Legend of Zelda adaptation. In an interview with The Serf Times, Conover revealed that at one point Netflix was in early development on a live-action Legend of Zelda series, and that it was canceled due to leaks.

Around the 39 minute mark of the interview Conover says that during his time at College Humor in around 2014, he was working on a clay animation Star Fox adaptation with Nintendo, which was also backed by the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto himself. However, Conover claims that Nintendo pulled the plug on both projects after someone leaked information about the live-action Legend of Zelda adaptation. Conover suspects someone at Netflix was responsible for the leak.

A live-action Legend of Zelda adaptation has been rumored for years, so it's interesting to hear someone with insider knowledge confirm its existence. In the interview, Conover expressed disappointment with the outcome of both adaptations. He also admitted that he's actually glad Netflix didn't end up making the series, stating that "this is not Lord of the Rings".

Regardless of how it would have turned out, it's certainly one of the more anticipated live action video game adaptations. It's also a bummer fans never got to see that "Fantastic Mr. Fox style" clay animation adaptation of Star Fox. The real tragedy, however, is that Conover also claims that during this time Shigeru Miyamoto came to the College Humor offices, but Conover wasn't able to come in on the weekend to meet him, something he's still mad at his old boss over. Can you blame him?

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the beloved video game franchise, and with a rumored Breath of the Wild sequel possibly leaked, 2021 is shaping up to be a big year for The Legend of Zelda. So who knows, maybe the continued success of the beloved adventures of everyone's favorite tunic wearing Hylian will make Netflix, or another streaming giant, reconsider. After all, Netflix is moving ahead with a live-action Resident Evil series. Perhaps with the success of animated video game adaptations, like Castlevania, fans may someday see an animated Legend of Zelda series.
