While many Call of Duty: Warzone players love Verdansk as is, many more have been waiting patiently to see the map change in some way. Thankfully, Call of Duty: Warzone fans wanting more variety are in luck according to a new leaker.
With no new points of interest added in the past few months, and Verdansk being the battle royale game’s main location for almost a year now, many believe that Call of Duty: Warzone needs a new map — or at the very least some big changes to Verdansk. For a time, it seems like such changes would happen due to a heavily rumored nuke event, though these eventually fizzled out. However, one Call of Duty: Warzone insider claims that fans should still expect a nuke to go off inside Verdansk.

Well-known Call of Duty: Warzone leaker ModernWarzone recently posted a brief tweet saying that “Verdansk is still 100% getting nuked,” instantly restoring the hope of players that were anticipating an event on this scale. Similar to Fortnite’s map being destroyed in Chapter 1 and the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War reveal taking place inside of Call of Duty: Warzone, players have imagined the nuke launching to be something that happens in-game. Even if the nuke were to detonate outside the game in a cinematic, though, the potential changes it can bring to the map are huge.
With ModernWarzone’s sources proving to be correct several times in the past, it is easy to see why people are excited about this teaser. After all, a nuke destroying a part of Verdansk could drastically change the map’s gameplay, creating new locations and leaving holes in the map’s buildings that make for an entirely new dynamic. While this nuke event seemed unlikely after Captain Price stopped the bomb from launching in the same cutscene that teased the debut of Soap late last year, ModernWarzone seems confident it will come eventually.
However, with no release window provided by the leaker and no way to back up their claims, Call of Duty: Warzone players should take this rumor with a grain of salt. While the source is reputable, they have also made several predictions that have not yet panned out. Further, no nuke event cosmetics have leaked, as what fans once believed to be items tied to the nuke’s explosion were given out to players to celebrate the launch of Rebirth Island instead.
Though Verdansk getting nuked seems more likely now than it did prior to ModernWarzone’s tweet, it is possible that this heavily-discussed event never comes to be. With recent rumors also suggesting that a new map is coming to Call of Duty: Warzone as well, it will be interesting to see if one, both, or neither prediction comes to be.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
