Salamence is one of the best Dragon-type Pokemon that players can get in Pokemon GO - here are the best moves that it should know for battle.

Those who have participated in the Hoenn Celebration Event in Pokemon GO recently likely have plenty of Pokemon from it. One of these is likely Bagon, one of the Pokemon that players needed in order to complete the Hoenn Collection Challenge during the event.

Bagon is a pure Dragon-type Pokemon that can evolve into Shelgon with 25 Bagon Candies in Pokemon GO. Shelgon, another pure Dragon-type, can then evolve into Salamence with 100 Bagon Candies.

Salamence is one of the top contenders in Pokemon GO's PVP scene. It is a dual Dragon and Flying-type Pokemon making it weak to Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Rock-type moves. Meanwhile, it also resists Fighting, Water, Bug, Fire, Grass, and Ground-type moves.

Despite its typing, Salamence can learn quite a variety of different typed moves. Players however should take advantage of moves with STAB, which is a common acronym in the Pokemon community that stands for "Same Type Attack Bonus." This means that Flying and Dragon-type moves work best on Salamence.

While there are many moves to choose from, there is a definitive moveset for Salamence that provides players for the most DPS possible in battle. This moveset is:

  • Fast Move - Dragon Tail
  • Charge Move - Draco Meteor

If players have the choice, the best Salamence to have on one's team is a Shadow Salamence. One can be obtained by recuing a Shadow Bagon from a member of Team GO Rocket after a battle with players not purifying it. A normal or purified Salamence however also have a lot of power behind them that makes them very helpful in PVP battles, raids, and gym battles.

Some players may not be interested in direct PVP for Pokemon GO, but may want powerful Pokemon to leave behind in local gyms. Salamence is also very helpful for that, but there is a better moveset for it in this situation. This moveset is:

  • Fast Move - Dragon Tail
  • Charge Move - Outrage

The one thing to note for this moveset is that Outrage is an elite move that is normally only obtainable during events. It also can be taught to Salamence however through the usage of an Elite Charge TM.

Salamence does have a mega evolved form, but it isn't in Pokemon GO as of February 2021. This mega evolution keeps Salamence's typing, weaknesses, and resistances. While it will give players access to a large boost in power after its released, players should note that mega evolved Pokemon cannot be left in gyms or be entered into the GO Battle League.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
