A selection of young superheroes is set to enter the MCU in the near future. Could we have a team-up movie in the works?

The following contains spoilers for episode 3 of Marvel's WandaVision on Disney Plus.

As the MCU moves into Phase 4, they have apparently been eager to introduce new heroes to their roster, with upcoming titles like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk in the works. This new phase is the perfect time for new characters to enter the fold, as it feels like the storylines of the original Avengers are coming to a close, and the franchise can finally introduce some new faces, like the Young Avengers, to revitalize the Marvel formula.

It is likely that we could see Marvel gear up for another superhero team-up movie in the future with some of the new characters that they have already brought or plan on bringing into the fold. However, there's a distinct possibility that the heroes that will gather for this new team-up will skew significantly younger than the original Avengers.

There are a lot of signs pointing towards the idea that Marvel wants to bring the Young Avengers into their cinematic universe. The Young Avengers are a group of young superheroes (many of whom are related to or mentored by older superheroes and members of the Avengers) who were formed in a comic series in 2006. Some of the characters in the group have been introduced in the MCU at this point, or are set to be introduced in the near future.

In episode 3 of WandaVision, Wanda gives birth to twin boys Billy and Tommy, who in the comics become Wiccan and Speed. Wiccan has magical abilities similar to Wanda's own, and Speed has super-speed powers reminiscent of his uncle, Quicksilver. These two become members of the Young Avengers, which is one of the biggest hints so far that Marvel might be setting that storyline up for the future.

Another integral member of the team is Kate Bishop, who in the storyline of the Young Avengers has taken on the mantle of Hawkeye. In the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney Plus, Hailee Steinfeld has signed on to play Kate Bishop and the series will presumably focus on her being trained under the current Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner. Again, this could be a good set-up for a younger generation taking on the roles of the older Avengers and forming their own superhero team.

There is a character already in the MCU who is a part of the team but who hasn't get gained their powers, though it could happen in the near future. In the comics, Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, becomes the hero Stature, taking on the same growing and shrinking powers as her father. Though Cassie was a child in both Ant-Man films, the time jump in Avengers: Endgame has given us a teenage Cassie who will likely take up the mantle in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaespecially considering the role has been recast and given to Katheryn Newton, which means that Marvel was probably looking for a slightly bigger name in order to give Cassie a bigger role in this next phase.

The other classic members of the Young Avengers have not been introduced into the MCU, but there are reports that Eli Bradley, or Patriot, will be set up in The Falcon and Winter Soldier, and America Chavez (Miss America) will make an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . However, it's also possible that the MCU might create their own twist on the team and include some of the other teenage characters that they already have in the MCU so far as well.

Marvel has announced that there will be a Ms. Marvel TV series starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan coming to Disney Plus sometime in 2021. Ms. Marvel isn't part of the comic Young Avengers line up, but it would be natural for her to join a group of other young superheroes after she becomes acquainted with her powers. Another possible new addition could be Ironheart, who is also set to enter the MCU at some point in the future. While these heroes will have their own solo series, it's easy to imagine how Marvel might want to eventually have them team up with the Young Avengers.

It is also possible that some original members of the Young Avengers wouldn't get their own solo series or films, and would either show up in the movies of other teammates or heroes, or even not be introduced until the ultimate team-up movie itself. Hawkeye and Black Widow both started as side characters in the movies of other superheroes until The Avengers, where they became full members of the team and we got some deeper insight into their characters. The same kind of trajectory might happen for some of the members of the Young Avengers, especially if the previously mentioned reports are confirmed.

This is all speculation at this point, of course, but it feels fair to assume that Marvel could be trying to set up a Young Avengers storyline with the amount of young heroes that they're going to be bringing into the fold in the next couple of years. Only time will tell if we'll finally get to see these characters team up on screen.
