Pokemon GO trainers can now learn about all of the features and bonuses coming to the mobile AR game in the Lunar New Year event next week.

The first week of February is moving right along and Pokemon GO players have been very busy chasing down new Field Research, battling the Johto Beast trio in Raids, and preparing for this month's events. More details about next week's Lunar New Year event are now arriving, which means players can start to prepare to take advantage of everything that annual event has to offer.

This time around, the Pokemon GO Lunar New Year event is going to once again put the spotlight on red Pokemon, but that isn't the only bonus or feature. There are some exciting limited time Battle Raid bosses showing up, new Egg hatches, and even some special Friendship and Gift bonuses for players to keep an eye on.

The event kicks off next Tuesday, February 9, so players still have some time to prepare for the event. Trainers may want to spend some time hatching all of their current Eggs and clearing out some Gift space in their inventory in the days just before the event festivities get started...

Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. local time

Red Pokémon—like Krabby, Goldeen, Magmar, Magikarp, Miltank, Meditite, Tepig, , and more—will appear more frequently in the wild! If you’re lucky, you might spot a Gyarados in the wild. Will you be lucky enough to encounter the coveted red Shiny Gyarados?

Pokémon representing animals associated with Lunar New Year will be hatching from 5 km Eggs! Keep an eye out for Rattata, Ekans, Mankey, Ponyta, Mareep, Houndour, Miltank, Torchic, Bagon, Buneary, Tepig, and Litleo.

Meditite, Carvanha, Duskull, Skorupi, and Darumaka will be appearing in one-star raids.

Miltank, Octillery, Blaziken, Camerupt, and Absol will be appearing in three-star raids.

Latios and Latias will be appearing in five-star raids from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. local time.

Mega Pidgeot, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Ampharos will be appearing in Mega Raids from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. local time. This will be Mega Gyarados’s debut in Pokémon GO!

In celebration of the Year of the Ox, Tauros, the Wild Bull Pokémon, will be featured in Timed Research!

Gifts will contain more Poké Balls, so be sure to send lots of Gifts to your friends.

You’re more likely to become Lucky Friends with your friends, so be sure to swap Gifts, battle in raids, and trade with them!

When you trade a Pokémon, it’ll be more likely to become a Lucky Pokémon.

Trading range will be temporarily increased to 40 km from Monday, February 8, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, February 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PST(GMT −8).

That's just about everything we know about the Lunar New Year event right now, but it's always possible more details or surprise features could pop up once things fire off. Over the next week or so players should begin to learn a lot more about what other events are on the way in February. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
