The reveal of Total War: Warhammer 3 is here with an announcement trailer that depicts a battle between the Kislev and Chaos forces.

The Total War series is all about grand strategy and battle tactics, with games featuring different armies from historical periods ranging from the medieval times to the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century. The series has also merged with fantasy worlds, most notably the Warhammer tabletop wargaming universe. The last Total War game in the Warhammer universe was Total War: Warhammer 2, and fans have been hoping for some official news on the third installment in the series. Total War: Warhammer 3 was officially announced today, with an action-packed trailer that shows off some new factions in the upcoming game.

Total War: Warhammer 2 was released back in 2017 and was well-received, with players and critics praising the game's scale, real-time strategy gameplay, and the Great Vortex campaign. Total War: Warhammer 2 has steadily received multiple updates and DLC content since then, with new factions such as the Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast added to the game. The latest DLC was The Twisted and the Twilight, and among other things added a huge dragon for the Wood Elves faction. This was the last big news concerning Total War: Warhammer games until today, when the long-awaited Total War: Warhammer 3 was finally announced.

Total War: Warhammer 3's new trailer focuses on some of the new factions that will be available in the game, but also features fan-familiar demonic factions of Chaos like Khorne and Slaanesh. Two new human factions, Kislev and Cathay, will be from the mysterious Lands of the East. The trailer also teases the potential for bear cavalry, which would be yet another addition to the already massive roster of units available in Total War: Warhammer 2.

The developer for Total War: Warhammer 3, Creative Assembly, says this new entry will feature "iconic new races from the World of Warhammer Fantasy Battles system." Since Total War: Warhammer 3 will be returning to the Old World setting after Warhammer 2 focused on the Age of Sigmar, it means factions like Nippon, the rivals of Cathay, could be coming as well. Creative Assembly also claims the game will have the largest roster of creatures, monsters, and magic in the series, with a scale even larger than the previous games.

When Total War: Warhammer 3 releases it will benefit not only from gamers looking to try out the campaigns, but also a competitive scene largely established by Warhammer 2. YouTube streamers like Turin and milkandcookiesTW make Total War: Warhammer related content on a regular basis, and give solid advice on controlling armies and the best factions for beginners. If Total War: Warhammer 3 follows its predecessor, there will be loads of content for gamers to enjoy long after its release.

Total War: Warhammer 3 will release in 2021 for PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store.
