Some of Rocket League's biggest personalities are coming together for a little Gridiron action ahead of Sunday's Superbowl 55.

In conjunction with Super Bowl 55, Rocket League has been running a new American football-themed game mode called Gridiron. It's much different than the standard high-octane "soccar" that fans of the game are used to, with new mechanics and an entirely different ruleset.

While the mode is only running until February 8, Rocket League has announced a new tournament called The Gridiron Games which will feature some of the world's top professional players and content creators trading in the round ball for its more ovular cousin. The event will take place over the course of one day, starting on Friday, February 5 at 12 p.m. PT (8 p.m. UTC).

The tournament will feature four teams with four players, each selected by a captain. The four captains are chellchee, a streamer and content creator for Spacestation Gaming, famous Rocket League casters Johnnyboi and Dazerin, and Sizz, a professional coach and content creator. They will have their pick from 12 of the most prolific names in the Rocket League community, including a few former RLCS champions.

It will follow a round-robin format, meaning each team will play one another at least once during the Best-of-3 group stage. The two teams with the best records after the group stage when then face off in a Best-of-5 championship game dubbed the Gridiron Bowl. The champions will earn the "Gridiron Games Champion" title, which can be displayed in-game.

In the meantime, players can participate in the Gridiron mode for the chance to complete special challenges that unlock a new set of wheels, as well as other cosmetic loot. The NFL Fan Pack is also available again, which allows fans to purchase gear related to their favorite teams.

Rocket League is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
