As a live service game, part of the experience fans can expect are changes that improve the experience. The patch notes for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are looking chock-full of additions for the first-person shooter.

The first major piece for this content update is the introduction of a new Zombies map, Firebase Z. Continuing the Dark Aether storyline, this mode will be available free to all players regardless of platform. Some new items are coming to Firebase Z too, like the Tombstone Soda perk that allows for soldiers to keep fighting even after going down. In addition to all the content for the Zombies mode, 6v6 is also getting the Express map. The map is a familiar location from Black Ops 2, but Treyarch is adding a 24/7 Express playlist featuring a plethora of 6v6 modes.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new content update. Squads looking for some new action can check out a 40-player Endurance mode, which drops 10 teams of 4 into the map. With a focus on detonating bombs, this game mode has players competing to see who can rack up the most points. Prop Hunt is getting 4 additional maps and the Gunfight mode is bringing 2v2 combat to Nuketown '84. On top of all the extra content, groups can look forward to map and mode fixes, as well as a Double XP weekend.
These are some of the main changes coming, but the full patch notes include much more. With so many updates coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, players will have plenty to do. It is great to see Treyarch continue to enhance the game over time. While other groups release patches for glitches and bugs, the team behind Call of Duty is expanding the experience. This patch has activities for all types of players which is a nice touch. From casual to ranked competitive modes, there are new activities and benefits to enjoy.
Though, this may be somewhat expected given how many in-game microtransactions it includes. It is nice that Treyarch releases playable content as free updates, but it comes at a cost. Despite all these changes, players will most likely still be barraged by advertisements for purchasable content. However, for those that have little issue with that, the new update should be a great time when it launches.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
