Following a security issue in which players who installed Cyberpunk 2077 mods could be left vulnerable to hackers, CD Projekt Red has released a hotfix to eliminate the issue.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been filled to the brim with problems and controversy since its release. After many PS4 and Xbox One players found their copies of Cyberpunk unusable due to a slew of game-breaking bugs, PC players thought they were safe, with most not experiencing any major issues at all. But recently, CDPR warned of a major problem with Cyberpunk 2077 mods that allowed malicious hackers to use the game's files and execute code to access personal information. CDPR asked players to refrain from implementing mods for the time being, wary that it could result in yet another lawsuit against the development studio.

But just a few hours ago, CDPR released hotfix 1.12 that should resolve issues creating the security risk by addressing the vulnerabilities in the code. While this hotfix for Cyberpunk 2077 seemingly fixes the vulnerability with the code, CDPR didn't have much else to say in regards to the update. Previously, the studio asked players not to install files from unknown sources, and users worried that this meant virtually no mod could be trusted in the current state of the game. But CDPR hasn't stated whether or not mods are now completely safe to install, though hotfix 1.12 is aimed at eliminating the problem, so stay cautious when installing game mods.

This hotfix comes after the 1.11 update that fixed a major issue with Cyberpunk's main questline. Following the major 1.10 update to Cyberpunk 2077, players discovered a game-breaking bug in which Takemura would call V but would sit there without saying anything. Of course, phone calls are a big part of Cyberpunk's progression, so without this phone call with Takemura, players were unable to continue the story. Luckily, hotfix 1.11 fixed this major Cyberpunk 2077 bug.

But with such a track record of implementing updates only to result in other bugs, players can only wonder if hotfix 1.12 will result in any other bugs somewhere else in Cyberpunk 2077.

But CDPR has continued to be proactive when it comes to fixing and resolving issues reported by players. So even though some gamers might be skeptical of CD Projekt Red's intentions with its game marketing tactics, the developers are, at least, trying to get the situation under control and deliver the game that it aimed to create over the last several years.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming in 2021.
