Square Enix announces Final Fantasy 14's fourth expansion, Endwalker, which is the concluding chapter of the MMO's current storyline.

Final Fantasy 14 players have been waiting longer than usual for news about the MMO's future. The pandemic delayed Square Enix's development by several months, unfortunately, but it's now ready to reveal what its been working on. Introducing Endwalker, Final Fantasy 14's fourth expansion.

Endwalker, as the name implies, is the culmination of the ongoing story of Final Fantasy 14. In Endwalker, players will confront the final days of Eorzea and the conclusion of the confrontation between Hydaelyn and Zodiark. That includes the fate of the Garlean Empire, the constant foe of the forces of good throughout the MMO, as well as the answer to the mystery of Eorzea's remaining moon. One thing producer Naoki Yoshida makes clear, however, is that while Endwalker is the end of the current story, Final Fantasy 14 will continue with a new story afterward.

As with all Final Fantasy 14 expansions, Endwalker will be filled with new content and features. There's perhaps no feature more highly anticipated than the introduction of new Final Fantasy 14 Jobs. Two new Jobs have been confirmed for Endwalker, though only one has been revealed. That Job is Sage, a futuristic healing class that focuses on barriers over pure healing. The Sage wields floating gun-like weapons named Nouliths. The second new Endwalker Job, a melee DPS, will be revealed in May.

In addition to new jobs, Endwalker will feature all of the typical new content that Final Fantasy 14 players expect. That includes new dungeons, a new raid named Pandemonian featuring Lahabrea, 10 levels of content, new Role Quests, crafting and gathering content, a new smaller PvP mode, an elephant-like Beast Tribe, the new Primal Anima from Final Fantasy 10, and more. Entirely new in Endwalker is a special "slow life" feature named Island Sanctuary that looks a lot like Animal Crossing, as well as Isguardian Housing in the first post-launch patch.

Another significant feature being added in Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker is the Data Center Travel system. As the name implies, this feature will allow players from any Data Center to visit each other. YoshiP says that there may be certain limitations, more severe than the current World Visit system. These details are still being finalized. Still, it'll create a more open and accessible Final Fantasy 14 experience, especially for beginners.

For Final Fantasy 14 players hoping for more information regarding Endwalker, another event is planned for May 15 and 16. The second Job will be revealed at this event, and Square Enix will hopefully have a better idea of when Endwalker will launch by then, as well.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PC and PS4, with PS5 support planned for later this year. Endwalker will release in the fall.
