The release date of BioWare's Mass Effect Legendary Edition remaster is quickly approaching. A new generation will be introduced to one of the most popular RPG trilogies of the past 20 years, and nostalgic fans will revisit a favorite series to refresh their memories. But PC gamers, at the very least, need to make sure their rigs are up to the expectations of BioWare. With that in mind, the PC requirements and recommendations for Mass Effect Legendary Edition have now been shared.
First, BioWare's shared the minimum PC requirements for Mass Effect Legendary Edition. PC gamers should have these specifications or better with regards to every single component. For CPU, BioWare's asking for an Intel i5 3570 or an AMD FX-8350 or better. The GPU requirement is an Nvidia GTX 760, an AMD Radeon 790, or an R9 290X. Lastly, the minimum memory is 8GB. Shared between all requirements is the need for Windows 10 64-bit as well as 120 GB of available storage space.

The recommend requirements take a healthy step forward from the minimum requirements. The CPU is pushed up to an Intel Core i7-7700 or an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, and the GPU requirement is bumped up to an Nvidia GTX 1070 or a Radeon Vega 56 with 4GB of onboard memory. System memory, on the other hand, has its requirement doubled up to 16GB of RAM. Finally, like with the minimum requirements, Windows 10 64-bit and 120GB of storage space are both necessary.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition's minimum requirements are surprisingly lax. Some of those components are over eight years old, so most gaming PCs should meet the requirements handily. That makes sense for a trilogy that started over thirteen years ago, though. The recommended specifications do take a meaningful step forward, but not prohibitively so. These components are around four or five years old. Mass Effect Legendary Edition, at least on paper, remains an optimized experience on paper.
The new remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy will feature a variety of visual improvements compared to the original games, in addition to more material changes like adjusted camera angles. Those improvements include a significant "uplift" for the original Mass Effect that's supposed to make it feel like an entirely new experience, increased amount of textures on-screen, and an overall effort to take off some of the trilogy's visual "edges." More specific improvements will have to wait until closer to release.
A short trailer showing off some of the visual changes in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition shows significant improvements to lighting, as much as anything. Real-time dynamic reflections are another example of this. Those with high-end PC will be able to make the most of their hardware, it sounds like.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases May 14 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
