Now available through Xbox Game Pass, The Falconeer is an impressive flight combat sim. What are some pro tips for owning the skies?

The Falconeer seems to be a sleeper hit that way more gamers need to get their hands on. It's already received some incredibly positive reviews and it's incredibly unique as a title. Soaring through the skies on giant Warbirds is an absolute delight that everyone should try at least once.

There's far more to this game than simply doing a barrel roll. There are a lot of ways to get a leg up in a dog fight (or should we say bird fight) like this game has to offer. Knowledge is power, and there is a whole lot of power right here for players.

10 Stay Close To The Enemy

The weapons players have at their disposal get rather inaccurate at longer ranges in the game. The best way to make sure players are hitting enemies is to keep in close.

Plus, people that are close enough can activate aim assistance by clicking X once locked in. This can allow them to fly at breakneck speeds while still having a chance to deal damage.

9 Play Using A Controller

Yes, it's possible to play The Falconeer on PC, but even there the game seems to work best when using a controller. The kinds of small movements and aiming required in the game just works better with a dual-stick controller. If players actually have a Flight Stick that's even better!

The Falconeer is also available on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X and is part of Game Pass's lineup for February 2021.

8 Mutate, Mutate, Mutate!

The act of mutating birds is incredibly important to maximize their potential in flight and combat. There are mutations that can help birds heal themselves, get faster, and even have better steering and agility. The best birds have always been mutated.

Mutations can be bought from Kytera who lives in a half-sunken laboratory in the middle of the great ocean. Just make sure to bring enough to pay the biochemist for their work and players can be soaring off on their improved birds in no time.

7 Master Breaking And Diving

Being able to break and dive in the game is incredibly important. Breaking is vital for making full stops to assess situations or to make sure players don't completely overshoot a target or perch.

People have to break to dive, which is important for reaching items hidden below the water. Master both of these elements to be one of the best bird pilots around.

6 Chapters Don't Have To Be Played In Order

That's right, it's possible to start right on Chapter Four if players really wanted to dive into the action right away! This can be a way to get some really strong abilities or see cool content earlier on but comes with a bit of a difficulty spike.

However, it is recommended to see the story in its intended order, as it's easier to play and follow the plot that way.

5 Always Be Boosting

Gotta go fast, even with the birds! With so much distance to travel in the game, boosting is incredibly vital to get to places quickly. There's actually a cool method so that players can be constantly boosting while still regaining boost so they can keep going at maximum speed.

Players need to tilt their beak down at the perfect level while expending their boost to pull this off. This takes practice and precision but is absolutely worth it.

4 Where To Find Ancient Shrines

Ancient Shrines are important in The Falconeer for way more than just providing new lore for a given area. They also help players unlock new abilities from the Sea Chantress and give them a map of the area as well. There's an Ancient Shrine in many areas of the map for players to track down.

Here are the locations of all the Ancient Shrines:

  • Creation: Located Between the two large islands in the northeast section of the map.
  • Falcon: Located northeast of Park Remit and is just a bit southeast of Oberons Reach.
  • Fire: Located southeast of The Spine on a large island.
  • Hidden Tears: Located northeast of the three large islands in the Spine near the center.
  • Kraken: Located north of Oberons Reach on a rectangular island.
  • Law: Located between the Sacred Steps and Imperial Peak.
  • Lost Creation: Located northeast of Dunkle.
  • Lost Father: Located between Stargazer and Witchrock.
  • Lost: Located east of the Earthedge Wilds on a single large island.
  • Mosaur: Located northeast of the Imperial Embassy in the center of a huge island.
  • Razorbeetle: To the southwest of Redmouth Forge.
  • Rocks: Located in the Imperial Hold, in the northern section of the Imperial Path.
  • Sark: Located in the Maw.
  • Water: Located near a star-shaped formation in the far south middle of the map.

3 Buy Healing Charms

There are a lot of useful items in the game, but Healing Charms are particularly useful. They allow players to allow to recover 50% health instead of dying once per takeoff and having good health is obviously important.

They are always for sale in either the Red Mouth Forge if players are in the south or in the Sacred Steps if they are in the north. Keep these locations in mind to visit as needed.

2 Pick Smart Targets

When there are tons of things flying around, it can be difficult to decide what to attack first. There's a simple way to make this decision — start with things the same size as the player and work on up to larger enemies.

If the herd isn't thinned, it doesn't matter if a bomber is taken out, all the smaller enemies will cut away at the player until there is nothing left.

1 Choose The Best Bird

Different birds work better for different situations. While a Royal Strongfeather is incredibly fast and agile, that won't do much good in situations that require a tank like the Imperial Cavelier.

Each situation has a bird that works best and players should make sure they get started off on the right foot (or talon) before heading into the fray.
