While shooting for the new Netflix film ‘Don’t Look Up’, Lawrence was injured during a stunt involving flying glass shards.

Jennifer Lawrence suffered minor injuries during the filming of her upcoming Netflix movie Don’t Look Up. A planned special effects explosion reportedly went wrong on the Boston set of the movie and a shard of glass struck Lawrence near her eye.

The accident occurred on February 5, when Lawrence and co-star Timothée Chalamet were shooting a scene together. The set was immediately shut down after the incident and Lawrence was rushed to the hospital. Though the extent of Lawrence’s injuries were not known immediately, Deadline has reported since that the Oscar-winning actor is recovering.

While this has caused a temporary delay in filming, it won’t be the first time the movie has been held back. Producer-Director Adam McKay first announced the movie in February 2020, with production set to begin in April of last year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McKay had to push back those plans, similar to many other movie projects globally. Filming finally began in November.

This is also not the first time that Lawrence has been injured on a film set. After having starred in The Hunger Games and X-Men movies, Lawrence has a lot of experience with action sequences, involving difficult stunts and special effects. During the filming of her 2013 movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, a water jet punctured one of her eardrums. She also had to endure an ear infection following that, while shooting several diving scenes. At the time, Lawrence was said to have gone “deaf in one ear” for weeks.

While a controlled explosion on the set of her upcoming comedy movie might be unexpected for many, a plot revolving around a huge asteroid approaching earth could explain why things were shattering. Don’t Look Up focuses on the journey of two astronomers, played by Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, who launch a media tour to warn the human population about a large asteroid hurtling towards the planet, potentially destroying it upon impact. However, they struggle to spread the word as people don’t believe what they have to say.

Along with Lawrence, DiCaprio and Chalamet, fans will get to see a star-studded cast in the movie, including Meryl Streep, Chris Evans, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Perry, Ariana Grande, and Jonah Hill. The movie is currently scheduled to release on Netflix in 2021. However, there is no confirmation on how the production delays will affect these plans.
