Developer CyberConnect2 has a long history making anime video game adaptations, including numerous games based on the Naruto franchise, as well as 2020's Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. One of the hottest new anime series out right now is Demon Slayer, and so it makes sense that CyberConnect2 is getting the chance to adapt it into a video game next. Details on the CyberConnect2 Demon Slayer video game have been scarce since its announcement, but now some more information has been released to the public.
The Demon Slayer video game, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Hinokami Keppuutan, is now confirmed to be releasing for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this year in Japan, alongside its previously confirmed platforms. There's no news on when the game may make its way stateside, but if it ever does, fans now have a better idea of what kind of gameplay they can expect from it.

Apparently, the Demon Slayer video game will feature both a single player mode where players get to "relive the story" of the anime series, taking direct control of main hero Tanjiro Kamado, as well as a Versus mode. The Demon Slayer Versus mode will let players select two characters from the roster of playable characters for some two on two battles, and fans can get a glimpse at what that combat looks like in some of the newly-released screenshots.
As previously mentioned, Demon Slayer is one of the most popular anime in the world right now, so it seems like a safe bet that the video game adaptation will indeed be released outside of Japan at some point. After all, the vast majority of the games CyberConnect2 develops get released outside of Japan, so it doesn't seem likely that an exception would be made for Demon Slayer. Not only that, but the Demon Slayer movie is getting an English dub release soon, so there is clearly confidence in the property draw an audience.
In the meantime, hopefully more details on the Demon Slayer video game come to light soon. The "solo mode" is pretty vague. Will it be a series of one fight after the next, like in traditional fighting games, or will it be more like an adventure game? How will the game utilize the power of the next-generation consoles, and will there be a free upgrade for those that buy it on PS4 and Xbox One? There's still a lot of questions about the Demon Slayer video game, but hopefully fans get their answers sooner rather than later.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Hinokami Keppuutan is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
